Increasingly, American politics may be reasonably understood as a chapter in the eternal struggle between good and evil. An essential part of Christianity is conversion, the willing dedication to renouncing sin and trying to live Godly lives. I write “trying to live” because no one is without sin. In many branches of Christianity, the greater the perceived sin of the newly converted, the greater and more miraculous the conversion.

A sort of parallel may be found in politics with miraculous election-year conversions. I write “sort of” because politics, by design and intention, has nothing to do with faith, unless it’s faith in an all-powerful and all-knowing, all-seeing government punishing sin, which is defined as transgression, in thought, word, and deed, against the majesty of government.
Such a miraculous, spontaneous conversion recently occurred in a temple of woke: ABC News. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—AOC—invented a new term: Woke 1.0. She, while laughing uproariously, not only defended it, but criticized it:

According to AOC, Woke 1.0 was kind of “crazy.” Yet in distancing herself, and presumably the entire Democratic Socialist—Communist—movement, from woke, she praised it, as usual rewriting history, because the fruitful discussions of that time amounted to: “shut up, you racist!” This, with the backdrop of Democrats—Communists—recently largely claiming to have no idea what “woke” is. AOC thinks woke exists, or existed, because we’re to forget everything Democrats ever said—you are getting sleepy, sleepy. Your eyelids are getting heavy. Pay no attention to the Democrat behind the curtain…–and only listen to what they’re saying now:
“I have a local city councilman that has this saying, ‘Woke 1 was crazy,'” Ocasio-Cortez said laughing, adding, “And I think that what’s important is that we have to assess what a candidate is saying now.” [skip]
She added, “I think that when we talk about crime today, it’s fundamentally different than the way that we talked about crime in bringing crime down, right? And I think that we all share the goals of having as low a crime rate as possible. I think that during lockdown, of course, rhetoric in that time is not rhetoric that we would use today. And I’m grateful that these candidates have the opportunity to present who they are to their electorate, and what they’re campaigning on in this moment.”
Why would Democrats pretend Woke never existed and that they have no idea what it is? Because Normal Americans have come to understand it’s fundamentally evil and destructive, the enemy of the constitutional, representative republic the Founders created, the very same Republic Benjamin Franklin was unsure we could keep.
AOC, who is surely running for the Democrat nomination for President in 2028, has fully embraced evil. She denied that she’s a member of the national Democratic Socialists of America—DSA—but admitted she’s a member of the New York DSA, a distinction without a difference. She claimed not to support the whole DSA agenda, which is handy, because she certainly has supported it in the past.

Neither AOC nor the rest of the DSA has abandoned woke, which may be understood as anything that will “fundamentally transform”—destroy—our republic. Democrats have always supported Communism, but until recently have understood the need to be stealthy about it. But within the last few years, Democrats have gone full Bernie Sanders, the man they cheated out of the party’s nomination for the presidency.
Particularly this year, Democrats running for office have begun identifying as “Democratic Socialists,” while DC machine Democrats still in power have tried to rhetorically separate themselves from the DSA platform, issues they’ve always embraced like abolishing ICE and the police, closing prisons, packing the Supreme Court, abolishing the Electoral College, opening the borders and ending deportations, amnesty and citizenship for all illegal aliens, no election security measures, the whole nine yards. They’ve even begun calling themselves “moderate Democrats,” a long-extinct species.
Woke yet lives, but AOC is trying to distract us from its evil. To whatever degree any part of the DSA platform is implemented, America and liberty progressively disappear. She and the rest hope we can be distracted by the promise of free stuff, by class hatred, by the mirage of no debt or bills to elect Communists. Most of all, she hopes that when Communism takes over, she’ll be among the elite who get things like political power and food.
Woke isn’t dead. It’s merely disguising itself. That’s why AOC wants us to forget what she and others have said in the past. That’s what evil does until it thinks there’s no need for the disguise. We can vote ourselves into Communism, but always have to shoot our way out. AOC thinks she’ll be one of the few with guns.
