With the collapse of the ceasefire agreement and a report that Iran was accelerating rearmament, President Trump has little choice but to take out Iran’s regime for good, which is happening now.

Allies, of course remain largely useless — that is, America’s traditional allies in NATO — Germany, Italy, Spain spring to mind, despite Europe benefiting more than anyone from peace in the Middle East after the source of strife, Iran, is gone.

But new and less traditional ones are appearing, and their contributions to ending the Iran problem are incalculable.

Foremost is Ukraine, the seemingly battered client state that always has its hand out.

Encouraged by a string of drone victories from inside Russian territory, it has taken out at least two large Russian cargo ships carrying weapons to Iran through the Caspian Sea:

💥 As the US fights a war with Iran, behaving like a true ally yet again, Ukraine destroyed two Russian cargo ships transporting Russian weapons to Iran in the Caspian Sea.
Yet, no one is willing to do this for Ukraine.

Thank you, Ukraine.

It’s good to know how strong some of our allies are. https://t.co/Bkj3dh0shh

That’s something invaluable to us as it prevents Iran from prolonging its war and killing U.S. troops. Taking those out from a geographic location we don’t have much access to is uniquely useful to the U.S. and a demonstration that arming Ukraine and enabling it to fight off Russia its own way has been a good investment.

That they did this has just built a bank of goodwill from the U.S. and the Trump administration for sure. They’re no longer a beggar state to us now, they are a battle-hardened, credible, helpful. and effective ally now. Pundit Gordon Chang has observed that the Iran war, and the Ukraine war are merging, but that’s because of Russia’s malevolent role in both. Russia now has one extra reason to sue for peace.

There’s also Greece. Here’s what they did:

This is significant.

Greece has done more to help the US and our allies than Turkey.

They’re taking out the Houthis of Yemen who have retarted their war in sympathy with their Iranian sponsors, and Greece is not letting them get away with it.

Technically, Greece has always been an ally as a NATO member. But up until now, it’s been considered weak and financially troubled. This is another level of support, an exceptionally helpful one. Greece, too, is developing a reputation as a nation with a military that’s not to be messed with, and is using its geographical advantage to maximal effect.

There may be other allies less visible, but these two stand out as uniquely helpful, a reminder that one need not be rich nor even a dotted-line ally to be a real ally. Kudos to both nations, and it shall be remembered.
