Jacob Coxon quit Anthropic on September 8th and dropped a thread that exploded past a hundred million views. He warned that the people building AI believe it could kill us all by the end of the decade. Neither OpenAI nor Anthropic is acting responsibly, he said. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives.

Elon Musk called it a setup. Tim Sweeney said it looked choreographed. The timing was perfect. Wall Street Journal interview first, then the post from a nearly silent account, then instant amplification from inside the labs. Bernie Sanders jumped in talking about pausing development. Ted Cruz called it catastrophic risk. The left and the right suddenly agreed on one thing: government needs to step in.
That is the Trojan horse.
Coxon is real. He worked on GPT-4o at OpenAI and did pretraining at Anthropic. He gave up equity that had not vested yet. His beliefs may be sincere. But sincerity does not make the playbook any less effective. The AI safety crowd has spent years arguing that only heavy regulation can save us from superintelligence. Now they have a fresh-faced insider with a viral warning to carry the message into Congress.
China is watching. Beijing has spent years trying to match American AI progress while keeping its own systems under tight state control. If the United States slows its frontier labs with oversight, licensing, and safety reviews, the gap narrows. A regulated American AI industry is a more even playing field for a country that already treats AI as a strategic weapon. The people pushing hardest for government control are not the ones who will lose when the race slows. The ones who benefit are the ones who never had the lead.

This is not a conspiracy theory about secret meetings. It is about incentives. The safety movement wants control. The Democratic Party wants control. China wants the race to stop. All three get what they want if Coxon’s warning becomes law. The Trojan horse is not the warning itself. It is the idea that the only way to survive AI is to hand the keys to the state.
America leads because it lets builders move fast. The moment we trade that speed for bureaucratic permission, we hand our advantage to the people who never earned it.
