Anecdotal evidence is still evidence—which is then almost always backed up by the data.

This morning while driving my son to school, I was behind someone who was driving like a total a-hole. He/she was speeding through the school zones (there’s three schools all on the same half-mile stretch of road), and he/she was absolutely riding the person in front. I made an educated guess, and predicted the driver was… black. And it turned out I was right: the driver was a black woman, and there were a couple of kids jumping around in the backseat, none of them buckled up.

Anyway, I figuratively rolled my eyes, and carried on with my day, dropping my son off, and heading home. Moments later, there was another a-hole driver, again speeding and weaving in and out of cars in the school zones. I made the same prediction as I did 10 minutes earlier, and of course, I was right again; that driver was a younger black girl this time. Before I get accused of being anti-black (my favorite juror is black, by the way), my guesses were based on my lived experience since moving to the South, where I’m around a whole lot more blacks than I’ve ever been in my entire life; for “some reason,” essentially all the very aggressive drivers I’ve seen in the last three years are black.

Then I began to wonder: Does the black aggression we see manifest in the crime rate translate to car crashes? Yes, yes it does.

The data shows that per capita, blacks are the second highest race to suffer traffic fatalities, second to the American Indian population, which, ironically, “had the highest proportion of alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities in traffic crashes” in 2020. American Indians experience 28.51 deaths per 100,000 population, for blacks that number is 17.53, and for whites, the number is around 10.9. That means between white and black, blacks are 61% more likely to die in traffic collisions than whites.

Leftist academics want to argue “socioeconomic factors” and “infrastructure” problems in black neighborhoods: one Harvard study explained that because blacks are generally poorer and have less car ownership than whites, they end up walking and biking around, and then get hit. That makes sense to me…but by whom are they getting hit? Well, probably other blacks—I assume these blacks are walking and biking around their own black neighborhoods. The study revealed that whites walking and biking died at a much lower rate—probably because they’re walking and biking in white neighborhoods.

That same study then conceded this:

Compared to White Americans, Black Americans … experienced traffic deaths … [at] nearly twice the rate (1.7) per mile driving or riding in a car.

So they’re also dying in car collisions at a greater rate while not biking or walking, and I don’t think it’s because they hit a pothole or because they’re on food stamps. I can only conclude they’re dying more because they’re more dangerous behind the wheel. This isn’t to say obviously that whites (or any other race) don’t ever drive like jerks, but the data backs up my hypothesis.

So, while the progressives want to explain it away as “structural racism within the US transportation system,” I’m going to say there’s an inherent aggression (cultural or genetic, I can’t know) that’s the problem—the same inherent aggression that leads a substantial portion of the black population to commit senseless acts of violent crime to a disproportionate degree.
