What is left to be said of the great work that Lee Zeldin has accomplished at the EPA in ridding this country of the Clean Power Plan (CPP), a legacy of the Obama era?  The CPP was a ticking time bomb set to go off in a few years, stripping our nation of its ability to provide reliable electric power. Zeldin was able to defuse it. It is a victory of sanity over madness.

There will be other bombs set by future Democrat administrations to sabotage our power grid in the name of climate salvation, but for the moment, we should celebrate this victory. We should also thank Zeldin for his tireless effort in securing it. It is an historic reversal of the decades-long encroachment by the EPA into every facet of American life.

Nothing exemplifies better the past bi-partisan support for the EPA’s unwelcome intrusion into all aspects of the U.S. economy than hearing Christine Todd Whitman, President George W. Bush’s EPA administrator, lament the CPP’s passing. It just tells you how far under Trump we have come since the days of the uniparty.

In an interview this week, Whitman trotted out the same old tired talking points about how we were putting our children at risk. She said,

It’s unconscionable. I mean, what they’re doing is really hurting human health, and the impact is particularly strong on the elderly and on children who metabolize differently. And we’re putting their futures in danger, there’s just no question about it, I do not understand this.

Christine does not understand a lot of things, primarily, that we are tired of her wailing about the children. She must think that she has a monopoly on concern for child welfare because she is a woman.

Christine went on adding,

[The] EPA has abandoned its core mission. I mean, [Lee] Zeldin said, [the] EPA administrator said not very long ago that when considering regulations, they were no longer going to consider human health, the impact on human health for regulation, [and instead consider] only the bottom line of an industry. EPA’s sole mission is to protect human health and the environment, and now they’re saying human health doesn’t matter, it’s only the economics.

Whitman is promulgating a false dichotomy, the logical error of presenting a thriving economy and high standards of human health as mutually exclusive choices, when, in reality, they are inextricably linked. A strong economy (and I might add cheap, reliable power) is what enables us to have a healthy citizenry and clean environment. Zeldin understands this point well and has moved forward with great determination to ensure that it remains.
