One of the more bizarre videos floating around on the internet shows a Sudanese migrant explaining to whites how there’s no such thing as ‘white culture’ while telling them she has ‘no intention’ of assimilating to…white culture.
This is really embarrassing to admit, but it ties into my essay, so it must be said. When I started as a freshman in college—I’m one week into being 18 at this point, so have some grace!—for whatever reason, the spirit of virtue-signaling overtook me.
I had some checks made with the Sierra Club logo, so whenever I paid for something, everyone would know I was such a good little environmentalist.
I bought a few things from some National Geographic site because it helped to support artisans in third-world countries, and I could show off how non-materialistic I was (not!).
Then, I heard about the political turmoil in Darfur (Sudan), so I put a “Save Darfur” screensaver on my laptop, and I would sit in the cafeteria in a position where passersby could see my screensaver, and therefore what a cultured and caring person I was.
Did I know anything about Darfur? Absolutely not, so I went to Wikipedia and memorized who was fighting whom, in case anyone were to ask me about the conflict. (I didn’t put two and two together, failing to realize it was an Afro-Islamic cultural issue, but that’s beside the point.) Did I actually donate any money to the refugees? Again, absolutely not.
I think about that, and I just cringe—in my mind, I pretend I don’t even know that 18-year-old idiot, because I, at 37, could never do anything so ridiculous! 37-year-old Olivia would have a great laugh at 18-year-old Olivia’s expense, and it would be entirely justified. And I, also at this age, couldn’t be more of a realist when it comes to the people of Sudan.

Case in point: Some Sudanese refugee, presumably living in Australia but definitely speaking from there, recently went on some sort of panel discussion to explain how there’s no such thing as “white culture.”
While speaking English…
While sitting in some sort of studio full of white culture-created technologies…
While sitting next to several men all dressed like white culture males with their suits and ties…
While admitting there’s such a thing as “French culture” and “Italian culture,” which are…white cultures….
While saying there’s no such thing as “white culture,” she emphatically says she has “no intention of assimilating…” to…white culture. That’s the obvious implied relatum in her remark.

(And yes, that’s apparently a woman.)
The only functioning majority-black culture is Wakanda, and that’s a fictional place! Where do these people get the gall? Honestly, how can one culture and race contribute so little and be so problematic for itself and the rest of the world, and its members think of themselves as superior? It defies all reason and evidence.
