There is credible evidence that President Trump suspended operation Epic Fury in favor of Epic Phone Tag to make a deal with the Iranian regime at the behest of Saudi Crown Prince MBS, and the other rulers of the Islamic Gulf states. A deal with the current Iranian regime? Isn’t that special. And such prizes await! In this episode of Let’s Make a Deal, behind door number one is an enormous tower of Iranian civilian corpses murdered by the regime, behind door number two are decades of Israeli dead, and behind door number three, American bodies.

Less emotional analysts than myself are saying that this Make a Deal interlude is buying time to make the real deals with the Gulf State rulers. In fact, the potentates of Sharia-based regimes seem to have more influence over the president at this moment than any other group of regional leaders. Why does a Christian president of a true constitutional republic appear to have such a soft spot for repressive Islamic rulers? The answers are primarily political regarding the interests of America, but they may also have a psychological dimension.
First, Trump is orchestrating a deal that will bring other Gulf states into the Abraham Accords. This means they must accept the so-called right of Israel to exist and not be destroyed, which amounts to persuading them to abandon the time-honored principle that there is a special right, if not obligation, to murder Jews. That’s going to be a tough sell. The comradeship of justified enmity and violence towards Israel and Western Civilization binds Islamics more tightly than can the ideals of human rights unite the West. But Trump’s super power is that he operates in the possibilities of the moment, and maybe the time for regional sanity has come. Also, the princely Gulf states form an economic axis to wedge against China.
But Trump is a human being, with affinities, tastes, and unconscious predilections which draw him to some leaders and away from others. There are reasons why the berobed potentates are Trump’s homeboys. First, Trump’s adult lifestyle has been to live in palaces amidst extraordinary splendor, as do his Islamic bros. Second, consciously and unconsciously, he may like dealing with stable rulers, who unlike himself, aren’t vilified, impeached, and constantly dodging bullets.

Contrary to the slogan of elderly white hippies, the president does not want to be a king. If he had, he would have bought himself an island like others we know and ruled over it. He would not have downsized his lifestyle to become president. His legendary real estate development career enabled an ostentatiously opulent lifestyle throughout his adult life. Bling is his thing. He was only 33 years old when he began building an over-the-top penthouse atop Trump tower. It resembles Versailles, but with golden bathroom fixtures Louis XIV could only dream of. Trump loves him his kings, as evidenced by the recent visit of King Charles III. It is his karma to love palaces and pomp, and unlike visiting China, he doesn’t need to bring a food taster when he visits Islamic royalty.
Also, it may be a relief to be in a context where he is working with leaders who are not always listening for gunfire. What are the psychological costs of years of unlawful persecution by Democrats, and the traumatic exhaustion of being shot at over and over? What have been the psychological effects of feeling a bullet slice his ear, and knowing another one took the life of a supporter? Assassination attempts seem to be gathering momentum. And can he trust the Secret Service? In this pivotal time, there must be advantages in dealing with hereditary leaders who are not routinely attacked, or even challenged, because their judicial systems harshly punish dissent. This doesn’t mean Trump approves of the cruelty of Islamic law, but that he can focus on the goal at hand.
What a moment! The nations of the world are not asking “What should we do?” but rather “What will Trump do?” Also, there is a clear demarcation between good and evil at this turning point. On one hand, there is the wish of the Jewish people to live in peace and to continue bringing their special gifts to the world, and for humanity everywhere to be released from the scourge of terrorism; and on the other hand, the pitiable human wreckage of the bloodsoaked Iranian regime. If Trump’s bromance with royalty facilitates the defeat of the Iranian regime, the world will benefit. Surely the president knows winning means choosing good over evil.
