When you review all the data on mifepristone (the abortion pill), from those who support it and those who condemn it, the tragic truth is revealed: both viable babies’ and women’s lives are threatened.

The most recent horrific situation just took place in North Carolina:
A couple in Durham is facing charges for harming a newborn after the woman allegedly took abortion pills in her 3rd trimester.
Syeisha Johnson, 18, and Elijah Speight, 19, are facing charges after Johnson allegedly took the abortion medication Mifepristone.
Newly released arrest warrants and search warrants indicate Durham Firefighters and Police responded to a home in Durham on July 29 in reference to a child born prematurely. They located the child in a toilet in the residence.
That’s right. The baby was in the toilet. Alive.
Fortunately, firefighters were able to save the child after taking her to a local hospital. Abortions are illegal in North Carolina. Nevertheless, the Durham County District Attorney, Satana Deberry, stated that she wouldn’t prosecute “women who obtain abortions or the health care professionals who assist them.”
This was not an isolated incident. In another case in the UK:
A woman who illegally took abortion pills at home while around six months pregnant [in 2025] has recently appeared in court.
Nicola Packer procured abortion pills from Marie Stopes by falsely claiming she was under 10 weeks pregnant.
She later went to the hospital with the deceased fetus in her bag, telling nurses she had experienced a miscarriage and was 16-18 weeks pregnant. A postmortem revealed the baby was 26 weeks old and healthy, meaning the abortion occurred past the legal 24-week limit.
Unfortunately, the FDA determined in 2023 that the pill could be prescribed by telemedicine through the mail or a pharmacy, without an in-person visit with a doctor.
But allowing the distribution of the drugs (which includes prescribing misoprostol to be taken with mifepristone) without oversight isn’t just a danger for the babies. The women are at risk, too.

Several factors can put the woman at risk: she lies about the age of the fetus; she has health issues that she isn’t aware of or refuses to reveal; there is no oversight once she has taken the pills to ensure that she doesn’t have complications after taking them.
The FDA, along with the drug companies Danco Laboratories and GenBioPro, has downplayed adverse effects of the drug, which include nausea, weakness, fever/chills, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, and dizziness, all of which are usually temporary. However, there are more serious outcomes.
A recent report, however, takes serious issue with the FDA regarding complications:
On Monday [May 2025], the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) released a comprehensive based on an analysis of public and private insurance claims submitted by 330 million U.S. patients over a span of seven years, from 2017 to 2023.
According to the study, 10.93% of the 865,727 women prescribed chemical abortions using the drug mifepristone suffered a serious adverse event like sepsis or hemorrhaging within 45 days after taking the drug.
The serious events reported demonstrated that the effect on pregnant women who took this course of action was 22 times as high as the FDA label:
‘Our research shows unequivocally that mifepristone abortion, as currently practiced in the U.S., is considerably more dangerous to women than is represented on the FDA-approved drug label,’ the researchers said, arguing that the FDA ‘should immediately reinstate its earlier, stronger patient safety protocols to ensure physician responsibility for women who take mifepristone under their care, as well as mandate full reporting of its side effects.’
The EPCC has strongly recommended that the FDA reconsider its approval of the drugs.
