But, has anyone noticed how many mutts are now pit bull mixes? I first noticed this when I lived in Tucson (between 2014 and 2022), where almost all the mutts I saw in the yards where obvious pit mixes, and then any time I’d look at the pound for a dog, it was also full of pit mixes. I figured at that time that it was an isolated cultural experience—Tucson is especially full of Hispanics and other illegals, essentially all of whom have some sort of affinity for pit bulls.
Then, I moved to Alabama in 2023, and things weren’t any different. Any time I’ve seen a stray running through my neighborhood, it’s clearly a pit mix. The ghetto-like areas of Decatur, “Black Town” (as it’s commonly known) and the area where a sizable portion of illegals live (about five blocks from my historic district area), have yards with tons of pit bull-type dogs. Furthermore, a current scan of the Huntsville animal shelter reveals the same story as Tucson: a significant number of the dogs are pits. Five of the 14 dogs (36%) available right now are verified pit bull mixes, and based on appearance, I’d say that number is actually 9 of 14 (64%).
This all stood out to me because as a kid growing up in the ‘90s, I didn’t even know anyone with a pit bull or pit bull mix, and I never saw them at the Clark County Humane Society (my local pound), which I went to fairly frequently—every time my parents considered a puppy they only considered adoption, so we’d walk through the kennels, and because I loved animals, I was allowed to volunteer and help there on an occasional basis.
So this morning I did a quick internet search, to go off of something more quantifiable than my personal observations, which turned out to be entirely accurate. In the 1990s, the most prevalent mutts were Labrador mixes, German Shepherd mixes, and Chow Chow mixes, which reflected the purebred trends of…a white 1980’s and 1990’s America.
Now? We’ve got this stat:

Demographics have drastically shifted between 1990 and 2026. Whites have substantially disappeared, and Hispanics (many of whom are/were foreign-born) have experienced a “rapid expansion” in population numbers Here’s a quick look at the numbers, from an internet search:
Non-Hispanic White: Decreased from roughly 76% in 1990 to around 58%-61% by the 2020 Census and subsequent estimates.
Hispanic or Latino: Experienced rapid expansion, growing from about 22–23 million in 1990 (approx. 9%) to over 63–65 million.

And with that shift we’ve seen our culture drastically decline, evidenced in one way, by the tremendous increase in… pit bulls. White culture isn’t the backyard breeder, the irresponsible dog owner who doesn’t spay and neuter.
Whites were the people buying the Golden Retrievers and the Corgis, who had a personal relationship with a veterinarian, who always fixed their animals unless they planned to responsibly breed.
I have two dogs: a Yorkie I’ve had since 2014, and a Great Dane that was a Christmas gift for my boys in 2024. Both are purebreds from reputable breeders, they’re both neutered, and they’re all up to date on their shots. And, keeping them healthy and my home clean is another full-time job. And based on people I know, the type of dog own I am is the norm for whites.
But the kind of dog owner I am is not the norm in Hispanic culture, and it’s not the norm in black culture—hence the yards overrun by vicious and unsocialized packs of dogs (pits).
Cultural decline is everywhere you look.
It’s at the local Walmart, where unruly and unsupervised Central American kids knock down displays of batteries and toss avocados into the lemon bin (that’s what I witnessed yesterday).
It’s in the classroom, where non-English-speaking foreigners slow the whole class down, and blacks threaten teachers and brawl in the halls.
It’s in the neighborhood, where everyone has to lock up, and where one can buy a beautiful home in a historic neighborhood in the South, only to be a few blocks over from illegals with roosters cock-a-doodling on top of broken down cars with Mexican flags flying from the porches.
And it’s at the dog pound, where you can’t find a sweet Labrador or poodle mix, but you can find a breed that is known as the go-to breed for dog-fighting! Welcome to the new America.
