I’ve been around long enough to remember quite a bit. As we age, our short-term memory tends to weaken, yet we can still recall the tiniest details of events from decades ago. It has recently been suggested that this is an evolutionary necessity. Before the invention of the data storage media we enjoy, we had to pass oral history down to our children, who tend to live entirely in the present, unaware of, and often uncaring about the history they need to understand to avoid making the same mistakes.

Mistakes like climate hysteria.
When I was in high school, we were all doomed—wait for it—in ten years by global cooling, an imminent ice age. That passed with little media notice, and morphed into Global Warming, which was going to kill us all in—you guessed it—ten years. Ten years later we were still here, sweating in the summer, freezing in the winter, but otherwise unchanged and certainly not extinct. Then, horror of horrors for climate hysterics, the global stopped warming. So, the doomers rebranded to “Climate Change,” which will kill us all any time now. Sure, it was supposed to kill us every tens of ten years ago, but just you wait: anytime now. If AI doesn’t get us by 2030, and if Trump doesn’t destroy the world within the next two years, we can depend on Climate Change to do the job.
I may have overlooked the coming Lizard People, Polar Bear, and “white paint is racist” holocausts.
Climate Change is the all-purpose, non-falsifiable science. True, “science” that can’t be falsified isn’t science at all, but shut up, you science deniers!
It’s the perfect doomsday hysteria because everything “proves” it. Hot? Climate Change. Cold? Climate Change. Hurricanes? Climate Change. No Hurricanes? Climate Change. Wildfires? Climate Change. California? Climate Change times a million. Tuesday? Climate Change. Wednesday? Climate Change. Trump? Solely responsible for Climate Change and everything else wrong in the universe.
Mike Bski has produced an interesting retrospective proving the memory hypothesis, titled:

I was born long before then, and I’m still around, so I’ll provide a few of Mike’s 17 examples of what killed us all.
1982 — UNEP’s own Mostafa Tolba told the world that by the turn of the century we’d be facing an environmental catastrophe “as complete, as irreversible, as any nuclear holocaust.” The turn of the century came. We threw a Y2K party instead. PASSED.
1989 — Noel Brown, running UNEP’s own New York office, told the Associated Press that entire nations could be wiped off the map by rising seas if the warming trend wasn’t reversed by the year 2000, and that governments had a ten-year window before it slipped past human control. Apparently the millennium was a busy season for parties, because we were still throwing them. PASSED.
2006 — Al Gore’s own Vanity Fair essay warned that leading scientists were saying we were in grave danger of crossing a point of no return within the next ten years. Ten years from 2006 lands on 2016. PASSED.

2008 — NASA’s James Hansen, on the twentieth anniversary of his own famous 1988 Senate testimony, said we were “toast” without a different path, called it the last chance, and told senators the Arctic would be completely ice-free by summer 2018. Google Earth still shows ice up there, last I checked. PASSED.
2009 — Same Prince Charles, now in Rio, recalculated it to less than 100 months before catastrophic, unimaginable horrors arrived. Do the math yourself. That one expired around July 2017. PASSED.
2009 — James Hansen told The Guardian that Barack Obama had exactly four years to save the world. That clock ran out in January 2013. Obama finished his FULL SECOND TERM after it expired. PASSED.
2018 — A tweet, later quietly deleted, quoting a headline that claimed a top climate scientist said humanity would be wiped out within five years without immediate fossil fuel bans. The scientist actually quoted called that formulation a “complete fabrication” of anything he’d said. Five years from 2018 lands on 2023. PASSED, and it was fabricated to begin with, which might be some kind of record for a single doomsday claim.

With the second Trump Administration, the federal government has dropped support for climate hysteria. There are plenty of “scientists” still predicting our demise in a decade, but they’re not getting federal funding to do it, which means the Democrat propaganda media isn’t paying much attention anymore either.
But stay tuned. If and when Democrats—Communists—take over again, we’ll all be doomed—in ten years or less.
