Britain, once a proudly Christian nation—and still a constitutionally Christian one—has declared war on the Bible in a sop to LGBTQ+ and Muslim sensibilities. Those groups may still be a statistical minority, but they are rapidly wielding the real power in the UK.

The last census in the UK was in 2021, so it’s a little hard to know how many Muslims are currently in the country. Still, it’s possible to make a reasonable guess about the results of five years of non-stop Islamic immigration. The best guesstimate is that Muslims make up about 7% of the population, and that may be seriously undercounting the true number.

These immigrants are concentrated in the big cities. In 2021, Bradford, an old English mill town, was 30.5% Muslim; Birmingham was 29.9% Muslim; Leicester, an ancient Cathedral town, was 23.5% Muslim, and London itself was 15% Muslim. It’s reasonable to believe that all those numbers have soared in the past five years, with many cities in the danger zone of an Islamic takeover.

However, Muslims are not yet the majority religion. Across the British population as a whole, about 39% of Brits still identify as Christians, although not many attend Church regularly. As in the rest of the West, the number of self-identified Christians consistently shrinks as people get younger.

Meanwhile, as of 2024, the data show that 3.7% of the UK population self-identifies as LGBTQ+. The number of self-identified LGBTQers is highest among young people. They are the future. Still, while 3.7% is a lot, as with the Muslims, it’s far from a majority.

What the Muslims and the LGBTQ+ crowd have in common is hostility to the Bible. Muslim hostility extends to any competing religion. LGBTQ+ hostility is grounded in the fact that the Bible is hostile to all sexualities but for marital heterosexuality.

What’s interesting about these two minority groups is that they live in what is officially a Christian nation (endnotes omitted):

The monarchy itself is inseparable from Christianity. By law, the Sovereign must be in communion with the Church of England, and at coronation the monarch swears a solemn oath to uphold the Protestant Reformed religion and to protect the Church as established by law. The Crown cannot pass to a non-Christian; in fact, Catholics are explicitly barred from the throne under the Act of Settlement (1701), a restriction still in force.

Parliament, too, is built upon Christian allegiance. All Members of Parliament and peers must swear the Oath of Allegiance to the Crown before taking their seats. Even where affirmations are permitted, the principle remains: allegiance is sworn to a monarch whose very office is bound by Christian duty. The House of Lords includes bishops of the Church of England as Lords Spiritual, a unique constitutional recognition of the Church’s role in governance.

Public life retains these marks as well. The State Opening of Parliament begins with Christian prayers; Remembrance ceremonies are framed by Scripture; and great national occasions—from coronations to royal funerals—are conducted with the language and liturgy of the Church.

One of the tragedies of the modern UK, which reached its apex as a nation when it practiced a fairly tolerant but still remarkably robust “muscular Christianity,” is that it no longer even pretends to respect its Christian roots. One of the clearest indicators of this fact is the growing number of people who are being arrested for quoting the Bible in public because doing so offends Muslims and homosexuals.

In the UK, a Muslim police officer wants to arrest a British Christian preacher because his preaching caused Muslims anxiety and distress.

Thus, while Christianity is still the UK’s official religion, it’s apparent that in cities across the UK, the official religion is a fusion of Islam and homosexuality. These preachers were eventually cleared of the charges. Nevertheless, the real message is that, if you preach the Bible in a way that offends Islamic or homosexual sensibilities, you will find yourself arrested, chewed up, and spat out by the criminal justice system. There is no better way to chill speech.

“Great” Britain, the nation that gave Americans the concept of free speech, has killed it. “Great” Britain, the nation that imbued us with the Biblical ideology that underlies all our rights, has abandoned both the Bible and the rights. Having lost those core principles, “Great” Britain is great no longer. It’s a meat suit of glamorous (albeit constitutional) monarchical trappings wrapped around a rotting, fetid corpse comprised of oppression and corruption.
