Back in March, after a weekend of “shoot-em-ups” that left five dead and nine others wounded, I wrote that Macon, GA has lots of huckleberries. “Huckleberry” was 19th-century slang for “I’m the guy you’re looking for” or “I’m ready for you.” After several months of hiding in the sewers and “shot houses,” sadly, in the last two weeks, Macon’s huckleberries and hood rats have returned with a vengeance; gunning each other down, sending some to the morgue and dozens to the hospitals.

Last Wednesday (Sept. 23), Macon had a shooting that left five men wounded. All five, ages 18-24, are expected to recover. Just when you thought Macon’s violence couldn’t get any worse, the huckleberries doubled down, literally. On Sunday (Sept 27), there was a shooting at Carolyn Crayton Park that left 12 people injured (10 teen boys, two teen girls). After such shootings, the injured are transported to hospitals which are promptly placed on “lockdown” because hood thuggies often go hunting their injured prey — meaning Macon PD thought that rival gang members might show up seeking revenge.
Last week’s shootings bring to nine shootings in Macon over the last two weeks that have left two dead and 25 others wounded. On September 19, LaKendrick Jamari Banks, a 15-year-old high school freshman, was found dead on Grosso Ave. The next day, Jeremiah Quantez McCrary, 21, was found dead inside a vehicle at 2300 Pio Nono Avenue. In addition to last week’s city park and Unionville shootings, other shootings occurred in Bloomfield, Fort Hill (east Macon), and the Baconsfield neighborhoods. Shooting victims are mostly young black men in the gangbanger age range, 12/13 to 27/28, though several were young black women.
As a whole, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office does good work apprehending the perps. That’s because thuggies are not very intelligent. They shoot each other, then brag about it on social media all while sporting easily identifiable facial tattoos. The issue becomes what happens to the criminals once the district attorney takes the case? Anita Howard is perhaps the most incompetent DA in Georgia. Macon crime victims often don’t receive justice because Howard is so incompetent (some think corrupt).

The following facts and figures are from the America First Policy Institute (AFPI). According to the AFPI, “the United States has the highest rate of children in single-parent households of any nation in the world. There are over 18 million fatherless children in America. Fatherless families are 4x more likely to live in poverty than are married-couple families. Fatherless children are more likely to suffer from psychosocial development issues, abuse drugs and alcohol, show signs of delinquent behavior, engage in school violence, drop out of school, and enter the juvenile justice system.

“Absent fathers are a predictor of violence for both males and females. 70% of juveniles in state-operated institutions come from single-parent homes, and most adolescents in the justice system have suffered from parental abandonment and dysfunctional households. Also, fatherless children are multiple times more likely to be incarcerated than children raised in dual-parent households. 71% of teachers and 90% of law enforcement say that lack of parental supervision at home is a major factor contributing to violence in schools. And 75% of adolescent patients in substance abuse centers are from fatherless homes. OTOH, children who feel close to their fathers are 80% less likely to spend time in jail.”
Given all the problems facing children raised in single-parent households (substance abuse, increased incarceration rates, violent tendencies, less educated, underemployed, etc.), the number one problem in the black community is lack of fathers in the home. Every research study clearly shows a direct link between fathers not in the home and negative outcomes for the children. Today, approximately 70% of black children are born to unmarried mothers. In comparison, in 1940, 15% of blacks were born out of wedlock. By 1965, about 25% of black infants were born out of wedlock. (Out-of-wedlock birth rates for Hispanic children are about 52% and about 28% for white children.) To be clear, not every child born out of wedlock is raised fatherless or in a single-parent household, but out-of-wedlock or unmarried parents do not translate well for a child’s overall well-being.
One cannot solve a problem until the problem is properly identified. Some ultra-leftist liberals claim that “fatherlessness” is not a major problem in the black community; racism is the main problem. According to the Dems/libs/progressives, hateful whites and Hispanics are the reason why blacks are killing each other. Let’s go with that racism explanation for a minute. Why then did violent crime increase in the black community after all the civil rights legislation of the mid-60s, after it became illegal to discriminate based on skin color? That’s correct, black violent crime started to rise in the late ‘60s and peaked in the early to mid-1990s. Also, if racism is why blacks commit more violent crime, why wasn’t the black violent crime rate much higher back in the 1930s, 40s, 50s, and 1960s, when blacks were being lynched, and hatred against blacks was real? In the last 25 years, most young gang-bangers, the ones doing all the shoot-em-ups, have never known racism. (Please, the “I get ugly looks” from store clerks is not racism.) Attributing black-on-black crime to racism is nothing but playing the “victim card,” and blaming someone else means never having to take responsibility for your actions/problems.
Black violent crime began to rise in the 1960s and has remained high mostly due to the high rate of fatherless households. Beginning in the ‘60s, Uncle Sam used government program welfare checks to replace black fathers as the income earners. Suddenly, black mothers no longer needed fathers to provide for their family. In fact, they were paid for having children out of wedlock. Uncle Sam became Big Daddy and has remained there ever since. Sadly, blacks keep voting for Dems to keep Uncle Sam right where he is, and them right where they are — in fatherless households. I’m sure, if anyone bothers to check, most of these “shoot-em-up” huckleberries come from fatherless homes.
