A large multinational company I once worked for — and such corporations are not unlike small countries — went through a “transformational leadership” program the CEO organized in order to shake it up, and make it more competitive for the long term.

Many employees grumbled and complained.  He had a good answer for them: lead, follow, or get out of the way.

The midterms coming up are also about transformation.

Our Constitution is framed in an ideology of individual leadership, and provides just enough government to establish an environment for leadership to thrive: for each person to transform into independent stature.  Like free speech, it isn’t free: opportunity has to be pursued by hard work, and especially, perseverance.

Some Republicans have said “give us another chance.”  I think what they meant to say is give yourself another chance — another chance to keep standing up, fighting, and building.  Chicago Nobel economist Gary Becker said the household and family are the basis of the economy. Indeed they are, and it isn’t easy, and never was.

Russia will become a much larger global energy provider.  Canada and Mexico will be forced into more favorable oil export terms.  Arctic oil will come on line. New shipping routes, and transport technology will be established.  Oil wealth will be more broadly capitalized and traded through new share offerings. And the U.S. will establish its own sovereign wealth fund that will dwarf other nations.

Democrats want Americans to short sell their own country and hand over their independence and personal sovereignty. Leave that to the socialist Europeans, and the whinging British who we left behind 250 years ago in 1776.
