I’m embarrassed too. It feels a little like when we first moved to North Carolina from Massachusetts. Before we got our cars’ license plates switched over, I felt like I needed to reassure anyone who saw them that no, we are not, in fact, insane lefties come to ruin your state. Now I, in a similar fashion, feel the need to distinguish myself from other women- the women we are seeing acting out so sociopathically lately.

At the time, the 19th Amendment seemed like a splendid idea. Suffragists were largely conservative. They were anti-abortion and anti-slavery. They made the simple argument that they weren’t trying to upend the classical order of things, but merely trying to fulfill it; that the Founders did not prohibit women from voting; they merely didn’t affirm the right. “Well, let’s affirm it,” they said.
After all, the post-Civil War amendments affirmed full citizenship for blacks and gave black men the right to vote, so why not women? What would eventually become the 19th Amendment was introduced in the Senate not long after the Civil War amendments were ratified. Still, there was a long battle ahead.
Why? Democrats, of course. It wasn’t until a Republican-controlled Congress came along in 1919 that they got real traction. Then it was ratified by the required 36 states amazingly fast, by 1920.
…The Republican Party became the first major party to advocate equal rights for women, and it wasn’t until the Republicans gained control of Congress in 1919 — after Democrats had defeated the 19th Amendment four times — that the amendment passed. Twenty-six of the 36 states that ratified it had Republican legislatures.

So yay, right? Good for us. As usual, the Republican Party moved toward Liberty, not away from it. But now? A century later? We have to wonder what on earth happened.
We can speculate, and we’d probably be right. The 60s happened. It all started to fall apart in the 1960s, once women got it in their heads that “women need men like a fish needs a bicycle.” And where did they get this idea? From the recently departed Gloria Steinem. She was not the only reason, but she’s a notable one. Where else? From the progressives who’d infiltrated absolutely every influential corner of society, like a swarm of ideological ants. The removal of God from all our public spaces, notably schools, has to be accounted for as well. It’s the whole ball of wax, the whole thing.
The Me Generation produced a bunch of narcissists who then went on to raise a bunch of narcissists, and that’s who we’re seeing outside the Plymouth, Massachusetts, courthouse supporting (self-confessed) child killer Lindsay Clancy. These same women were just seen up in Boston, Massachusetts, standing around progressive Governor Maura Healey as she signed the abortion-until-birth bill into law. They smiled, clapped, and cheered. If that’s not a marquee example of sociopathy, I don’t know what would be.
Like everything progressives touch, the century-old 19th Amendment now stands worse for wear. It is like an old, beat-up book barely able to be touched without tearing. And while repeal isn’t going to happen, the calls for it — from women — are eminently understandable.
