On September 2, 2026, in Minneapolis, an unidentified shooter killed two and injured six others, including three police officers, before apparently killing himself. The officers survived. The media was kept in the dark, probably willingly, until CBS finally identified him and provided a motive, which Minneapolis authorities, including the police, would likely rather not have done. We’ll almost certainly be treated to the Mayor and police chief continuing to moan that the motive may never be known, except that it is, to sane people:

As one might expect, he was “known to police.”
CBS News identified the alleged killer’s name. The police chief in Minneapolis had acknowledged at a press conference that he was familiar with the shooter, indicating a prior crime history, but he did not state a name. CBS claims multiple law enforcement sources have since contacted the outlet to provide Johnson’s name. Alpha News claimed to have obtained Johnson’s eviction notice and stated that he had numerous crimes on his record [34 criminal and traffic offenses] dating back to 2011, including “domestic abuse, domestic assault, drug paraphernalia, and numerous citations for driving with a suspended license.” The shooter is another example of a serial violent criminal whom a broken Democrat justice system empowered to kill people.
The purported eviction notice lists a series of incidents instigated by Johnson dating back to January of this year, including a March assault on a fellow resident, a June visit to the office where he aggressively displayed his gun to staff, and another June incident where Johnson told multiple other people he was going to kill someone with his new gun.
Soon after that, according to CBS, Johnson was outside brandishing his gun and particularly seeming to target one other resident. Someone called the police, but apparently they didn’t arrest Johnson, who then tried to bribe other residents to tell him who had called the police. It is unclear if he discovered the identity of the caller, and whether this was one of the deceased victims. Staff at the apartment complex finally managed to evict Johnson on Wednesday, and that is when he went on his shooting spree.
It’s another case of someone who was obviously, imminently dangerous, someone the police and the criminal justice system knew well, but nothing was done, and people died. Americans are used to seeing this sort of thing happen, and it’s no surprise that it most often happens in blue cities. That this happened is even less of a surprise than usual, because while Minneapolis is a blue city, it’s arguably the bluest of blue cities.
Minneapolis was ground zero for the martyrdom and canonization of Saint George Floyd. The Minneapolis Police Department was defunded, and its officers were constantly accused of racism and harassed. The railroading of Officer Derek Chauvin and others was so blatant, so choreographed, that many MPD officers who could retire, immediately did. Others fled to places where the police are appreciated and allowed to do their jobs. Ultimately, some 40% of the entire force fled.
Minneapolis has never recovered, nor has the MPD, which remains desperately undermanned. Was that lack of officers to blame for not taking Johnson off the street? Perhaps in part. More likely was his race. Post-George Floyd, who is still venerated in Minneapolis, where shrines have been erected and maintained, remaining officers have largely been in survival mode. The Democrat rulers of the city have become even more deranged, even more hostile toward law enforcement, and far more supportive of criminals of all kinds, particularly black, minority, and illegal alien criminals.

It’s a familiar story: Prevent the police from enforcing the law against the people who commit crimes far out of proportion to their numbers in the population, and it is those very minority communities that suffer most from uncontrolled criminals. The result is that officers actively avoid arresting black and illegal alien criminals unless they have no choice, because they know that even if they do everything scrupulously by the book, it could cost them their careers and probably put them in prison. Proactive policing? Forget about it. They also know judges will immediately release crooks. Hennepin County prosecutors are notorious for going soft on criminals and attacking the police at every opportunity, so why bother? It’s keep your head down, do as little as possible, and try to make it to 20.
Catherine Salgado concludes with this:
A neighbor has said that Johnson had explicitly threatened to shoot two property managers and his ex-girlfriend, the New York Post stated. Another neighbor said that Johnson was fighting people “every day,” and yet police never arrested him. Talk about a completely avoidable tragedy.
Yes. In sane cities, run by Normal Americans. In Minneapolis? It’s amazing it doesn’t happen every day.
