If you study polling, the 2026 midterm elections look like trouble for Republicans. The Republican majorities in the House and Senate are in danger. One problem is that the media have been focused on promoting negative news about the economy and foreign affairs, while glossing over the victories of the Trump administration.

Recent victories include, according to a White House release on August 26, 2026, “US Business Activity Expands at the Fastest Pace Since 2022,” sourcing a Bloomberg News story. Bloomberg reported that “US business activity grew at its fastest pace in more than four years as stronger demand and a rosier outlook fueled a wave of hiring.” The White House also cited the fact that “Amazon is bringing a multibillion-dollar robotics plant to Texas.” Also with gas prices high, the Trump administration announced on August 31, 2026 that “in the biggest oil deal in world history, President Donald J. Trump has secured U.S. majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves in Venezuela — vastly expanding our current U.S. territorial proven reserves of roughly 46 billion barrels.” These are recent victories that have been underreported by the mainstream media.
Since the president has been sworn in, other victories have been sidelined by a negative press corps. The Making America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement has expedited lifesaving drugs to the market, established a commission to study why Americans are so unhealthy, and released new science-based dietary guidelines that promote healthy eating. The Trump administration has unleashed domestic energy production by setting a new liquified natural gas (LNG) export high unmatched by any other nation; reversed Biden administration drilling restrictions; and re-opened hundreds of millions of acres to coal, gas, and oil production. The tax reforms implemented with Congress have put more money in the pockets of all Americans. These are all examples of promises made, promises kept.
There are a few examples of promises still in process. Ending the Iran war quickly is one area that would greatly help Republicans in the midterms. With gas and grocery prices acting as a proxy for voter discontent on inflation, an effort should be made to further deal with high spending levels.
These are the high-profile issues, but there are other issues that fly lower on the voter’s radar.

The Trump administration has yet to follow through on one of the key promises that secured his election. As a candidate, President Donald J. Trump promised to save flavored vaping, and he has made some progress on that goal. There are reports that former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Marty Makary finally was pushed to approve a limited category of flavored vaping, yet the move was too slow to save Makary from keeping his job. He was let go because he was obstructing a Trump campaign promise.
American voters in 2024 were counting on the Trump administration to save flavored vaping and keep his promise. Though the FDA has taken baby steps to get some of these products approved, it is simply not enough. Vaping voters will not continue to vote for Republicans if they do not fulfill their promise.
Without action, the vaping industry will be wiped out, thousands of Americans will lose their jobs, and American adults will lose access to the products they rely on to quit smoking. Securing a Premarket Tobacco Product Application (PTMA) standard grounded in science that would allow for a free and fair marketplace is the only way to ensure that these voters vote red moving forward.
This is a conservative issue: Allow the free market to be the deciding factor on products, not government regulation. If Republicans are to stand a chance in these midterms, they must act on all the president’s promises. President Trump and his Republican allies must spike the football on wins and take the decisive action necessary to complete the unfulfilled promises President Trump made during his campaign.
