The word “foreperson” needs to be cast into the linguistic scrapheap of history. It sounds weird, even off-putting. Per the book of Genesis, God created woman from man. Per the Bible and centuries of custom, it’s implied that foreman covers women, just like chairman or spokesman may include women incumbents.

As I type, the jury in the Lindsay Clancy trial is deadlocked. They are being led by a female foreman. Studies indicate that females tend to be more touchy-feely in their leadership style. Rather than being primarily task-oriented, they tend to build relationships, maybe even tend to the donuts and coffee to break the ice.
Parkinson’s law of triviality captures their tendency to jabber away pointlessly, thereby impairing meaningful communication at the crux of the matter. Nevertheless, their empathy tends to create a friendly and welcoming safe space that conforms to their more feeble feminine traits.
By contrast, men are more transactional and task-oriented. Moreover, men are more analytical and logical, per the Science Editor of the Telegraph, no less.

The judge in the Clancy trial has sent the jurors back into their room to continue deliberations. Changing the foreman to a man may not resolve their deadlock (there are very complex issues, conflicting testimony, and rambling jury instructions complicating matters). It’s a rare procedure, but give it a try. Clearly, the female foreman trying to lead them now is not doing what female leaders often do well: build consensus. It’s time to turn over the reins to one of the three male jurors.
All the emotional and affective female fluff hasn’t worked. They’ve broken the ice with feminine niceties, now it’s time to kick some ass and whip the jurors into shape. To the extent that jury deliberation dynamics are an impediment to reaching unanimity, they need a proper foreman to apply some male “get the job done” leadership.
