Such ignoramuses don’t know that lots of constitutions don’t specifically mention the official language. Why? Because it’s obviously the one in which the constitution is written! In the United States, only the English-language version of the Constitution is valid.
America-haters pretend not to know that English, in the United States, is spoken by everybody, and it’s the mother tongue of anybody who was born in the United States. All official texts are only in English, as it has to be. You won’t find signs in other languages in the United States, except in places with a lot of foreigners, such as airports, and even multilingual signs will always have the English version on top.
Of course, you may speak any language you want at the dinner table and in all other unofficial contexts. But English is the language you have to speak if you want to be part of the mainstream, if you want to become an American citizen one day.

It’s typical to include the United States among Spanish-speaking countries, because Spanish “is spoken by over 40 million people in the United States.” But Spanish is just the language of immigrants coming from quite a lot of different countries. It has no right whatsoever to be considered an official language. Hispanics in America often keep speaking Spanish to one another, but they have to speak English every day in quite a lot of official and unofficial contexts. Their kids who are born in the United States speak English as their native tongue, not Spanish, although they are often bilingual, which is something very good, because you should always keep links to your parents’ homeland.
The only co-official languages in the United States, only in the areas where they are actually spoken, are those of communities who have been living on American soil for centuries, such as the Indian tribes.
Does the sign reading “This is America, speak English” sound rude to you? Well, that’s your problem. Because they actually speak English in America, just like how they speak Spanish in Mexico, French in France, German in Germany, and Italian in Italy. And so on and so forth.
