Those who follow politics have frequently heard instances where a politician or organization is said to need a “Sister Souljah Moment.” Let’s go back to when that event happened and why today’s Democrat party desperately needs such a moment if it is to survive. (Don’t misunderstand me. Our nation is in much better shape when Republicans are in power. However, the United States works best when there are two civilized political parties that might disagree on the “how,” but at their core both believe in the U.S. Constitution.)

On May 13, 1992, The Washington Post published an interview with rap artist Sister Souljah. The singer caused an uproar when she said, “If black people kill black people every day, why not have a week and kill white people?”
As you can imagine, most Americans did not take kindly to that suggestion.
Just one month later, in June, Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Coalition held its national conference in Washington, D.C., with Democrat presidential candidate Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton as the keynote speaker. Sister Souljah, also a conference speaker, drew media attention due to the still-simmering outcry over her bigoted comment. Being out on the campaign trail, Clinton had only learned of Souljah’s racist remark the day before he was to speak at the event.
On June 13, with Jesse Jackson seated to his left, Governor Clinton gave his basic stump speech. Toward the end, he looked at Jackson and said Sister Souljah’s inflammatory remarks were “filled with a kind of hatred that you do not honor,” adding, “if you took the words ‘white’ and ‘black’ and reversed them, you might think that David Duke was giving that speech.”
Jackson was very angry about Clinton’s comments, which he felt were divisive. After the event, he told reporters that Sister Souljah was “misunderstood” and added that Clinton used “very bad judgment” for bringing up her remarks during his speech. The leftist New York Times featured a front-page, above-the-fold story about the upset Jackson.
What Jesse Jackson failed to realize was that Bill Clinton was not speaking to the predominantly black Rainbow Coalition audience. Clinton was speaking to white America. That became known as the “Sister Souljah Moment.” Writing about the Sister Souljah incident in “Who’s Afraid of the DSA?“ Karl Rove stated:
The Clinton campaign credited the controversy with helping him win the general election. It signaled to voters he was mainstream, sane, strong and unafraid of a fight.
If the Democrat party is to survive, it needs a “Sister Souljah Moment.” Surely, there must be more than a handful of Democrats willing to loudly say that the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) communist agenda does not represent the Democrat party. (Some argue that it does.)
DSA member or not, what counts is that many Democrat candidates promote the DSA agenda that includes:
- Abolish the Senate
- Replace the presidency
- Replace the Supreme Court
- Defund the police
- Open borders
- Amnesty for illegal aliens
- Defund the Pentagon
- Abolish ICE
- Medicare for all
- Green New Deal
- Government ownership of private businesses
History repeatedly shows that tyrannical groups start small but make a lot of noise. (For more information, read about Lenin’s communist revolution in Russia and Hitler’s socialist election in Germany.)
The key word is “small.” The New York Times reported that the DSA’s recent Democratic Socialists of America Summit in Chicago drew a paltry attendance of about 600 members. Does that sound like a “yuge” turnout to you? And yet this was their largest turnout in 40 years, and the media made a big deal about the summit.
Just 600 people! In comparison, on July 9, 2026, the Seattle Mariners played the Miami Marlins in Florida in front of 7,815 fans. That is currently Major League Baseball’s lowest turnout this season.
Perhaps DSA members should have named their conference “DSA ComicCon”, as the real ComicCon draws about 130,000 attendees. (Comic? Commie? Ignorant DSA followers would probably have confused the two.)
Maybe the earthquake to wake up some Democrats started in Michigan when Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed won the Democrat primary. (Since El-Sayed believes every Muslim should vote for him solely because he is Muslim, let’s use his full name.) Michael LaRosa, press secretary to former First Lady Jill Biden, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers over El-Sayed for U.S. Senate in Michigan. The gay LaRosa is a long-time Democrat, having worked for New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Washington Senator Maria Cantwell, and U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi. On August 8, he posted on X:
I refused to defend or support anyone with an SS Totenkampf tattoo, simply because they had a “D” next to their name.
I won’t defend or support anyone who is too cowardly to stand up to extremists who think the mother of my best friend, who jumped from 95 stories because the alternative was worse, deserved what happened to her.
Her only crime was showing up to work that morning.
The Democrat running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan won’t or can’t stand up to the guy (Hasan Piker) who says she “deserved” what she got that morning she showed up for work.
Julian Epstein is the former chief counsel for the House Judiciary Democrats and the former staff director of the House Oversight Committee. On August 6, 2026, he wrote in a New York Post op-ed:
After decades of giving my all for Democratic House and Senate candidates, this fall I will support — and contribute to — Mike Rogers, Michigan’s GOP Senate nominee, instead.
Tovah Feldshuh is an acclaimed actress of stage, television and Broadway. On August 9, she posted on Facebook:
I am a registered Democrat and have been for decades, yet I had a distinct pleasure this morning. I spent breakfast with common sense Republican Caroline Shinkle running for congress in the 12th district: the upper west and upper east side of Manhattan. She was really articulate in her fearless defense of our basic Democratic values upon which this country was founded, as well as the one democracy that we have in the Middle East: the sovereign state of Israel. An MIT graduate in economics & a Harvard law school graduate as well, this woman shows us what a brilliant mind is capable of creating and doing.
Democrats who want to save the party of Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy and Clinton desperately need a “Sister Soulja Moment.” They should heed President John F. Kennedy’s warning stated in his inaugural address:
In the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.
For now, the midterm election offers a stark contrast between Communist and Republican candidates. May the U.S. Constitution win!
