‘We’re here; we’re deadly; get used to it’

Most people understand a conspiracy theory to exist in a realm where disparate, unrelated facts slot into a person’s monomania to create a threat manifest only to that person. In this realm, the most persuasive evidence is the absence of evidence. The mere fact that no one has ever seen a secretive Jewish cabal nor read the cabal’s “plan” for world domination is, in itself, proof to the monomaniacal antisemite that such a plan exists.

But is it a conspiracy theory when your ideological enemy boasts loudly about its plan for world domination and threatens violence to achieve this goal? Or when adherents of this ideology then act violently? I would say that at this moment, you’ve morphed from an inchoate conspiracy theory that can be shouted down as “racism,” and seen the same theory move into the spotlight as manifest enemy action.

I mention all this because, lately, X has seen a startling rise in the number of videos showing Muslims openly stating that their goal is the complete destruction of the West, with the explicit or implicit threat of violent action:

What this reminds me of is the trajectory of the gay liberation movement. (Before I go further, I’m not saying the gay liberation movement is a murderous jihadist movement. I’m just looking at how these movements advance through societies.)

In the beginning, gay liberation was about being free from police harassment. (That was Stonewall.) Then, it morphed into a sort of libertarian movement, along the lines of “just leave us alone to live without harassment or discrimination.” These were the people we all knew, the friends and family who truly just wanted to be left alone.

However, by the late 1980s, years after AIDS had exposed America to the sexual excesses in which so many gay men engaged, the radical gay activists appeared. They no longer wanted to be a minority movement that could exist without civil and criminal abuse or discrimination. They were going to be out, proud, and very, very loud.

It started in 1987 with the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP), which was an aggressive movement to force more government and private funding for AIDS research. Its adherents engaged in direct action—the theater we’ve all come to expect from the left, complete with protests, sit-ins, die-ins, street blockades, meeting disruption, etc.

ACT UP paved the way for Queer Nation, which had as its goal making gay rights a preeminent presence in the American political and social scene. ACT UP was opposed to the old gay liberation movement, when gays and lesbians mostly wanted to be left alone (although some of that alone time, to Anita Bryant’s chagrin, was with Boy Scout troops). And that’s when a slogan was born: “We here; we’re queer; get used to it.”

We’ve been living in that world ever since. Our entertainment, our media, our education, our military, our politics, and even our Constitution—every one of those institutions has had to get used to the centrality of homosexuality and all the other “alternative” sexualities the movement spawned, everything from so-called transgender and non-binary identities, to people claiming to be animals, to all sorts of other quite literally deviant behaviors (deviant because they deviate statistically from the heterosexual norm).

They’re here; they’re queer; and we’ve been forcibly made used to it.

The same thing is happening with Islam. Those few Muslims who immigrated to America before 9/11 were unremarkable community members. My family—Jewish—had many Muslim friends and acquaintances when I was growing up, nice people who wanted to worship peacefully, make money in the American economic system, and raise their children to succeed.

After 9/11, though, even as we were relentlessly told that Islam was a religion of peace, a new generation of Muslims—both born in America and abroad—were activists: “We’re here; we’re Muslim; get used to it.”

Fast forward a couple of decades, and the chant has changed: “We here; we’re going to kill you; get used to it.” 

And if the gay liberation movement’s trajectory from “leave us alone” to “bow before us” is any indicator, we Americans, an infinitely adaptable people, will get used to it, and let it happen, ending the American experiment.

Perhaps the greatest irony in all of this is that the people at the top of the sharia kill list, right next to Jews, are homosexuals, the same ones who showed the jihadists how to do it. These homosexuals:
