At first I was aghast:  Muslim Mayor Mamdani strode to his Eid prayers with a devilish smile that hides his inner darkness.  Even more troubling, he sported an obnoxiously conspicuous Arsenal kurta.

Upon further consideration, given his essential anti-Americanism, I was somewhat relieved he offered no pretense of loving America.

Arsenal are a soccer team in the vaunted English Premier League; they recently won the title. Even though it’s rare for a high-ranking elected official in the U.S. to openly exhibit support for a foreign sports team (over local affiliations), one must remember that the Muslim Mayor was born in Uganda and spent some impressionable, acculturation years in South Africa.   He has also maintained close ties to East Africa.  He’s not exactly an all-American.

Is he even proudly American at all?  That’s a reasonable question since Mamdani wore his Arsenal colors the day after the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team (USMNT) was announced. Since Mamdani is a soccer fan, and since the announcement occurred in New York City, he’d have been acutely aware of the importance of the event.  A proper American mayor would have donned some spiffy USMNT garb.  Where’s the loyalty and pride?

That’s why I’m not really aghast by his Arsenal-themed guise. Actually, if he were to wear USMNT colors it would, in essence, be cultural appropriation.  He’s not worthy!  We all know where Mamdani is coming from: Africa and mind-numbing socialism.

Once again, Mamdani has shown his true colors — and they are NOT the red, white, and blue. The official USMNT uniform sponsors don’t mass produce Kurtas, but, if he must wear such, they are not hard to tailor.  Besides, Kurtas are not required for Muslim prayers.

With trepidation, I briefly imagine what wicked thoughts infect the dark recesses of his muddled mind. If I were to guess, he’s probably secretly supporting South Africa during the World Cup.  After all, he views them as the model for New York.
