Mayor Zohran Mamdani threatened to indict the prime minister of Israel. He promised the media to check with the legal department and explore the issue. Well, he did check with the legal eagles and they told him what everybody already knew: the mayor of New York City cannot indict a foreign leader.

Here is the story:
“Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal, the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people,” Mamdani said in the statement.
“He belongs before a court of law. As I’ve said, I agree with the [International Criminal Court] that Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested and tried for his crimes,” Mamdani said.
“My administration has reviewed every avenue available under applicable law to determine whether New York City could execute the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant,” he said. “It is clear we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant.”
Wow. He can’t enforce this warrant. I can’t get no indictment… no, no, no.
The real story here is that the mayor of New York City was pandering to his base, the new breed of Democrat Socialists winning primaries. They see Israel as President Trump’s ally, and that’s enough to make him a war criminal.

Of course, the “war criminal” charge has never been proven in a court of law because there is no such court for these political cases. However, it’s a wonderful talking point, sort of like “the convicted felon” line that you hear every other minute at “The View.”
And there is another little detail here: the American Service-Members’ Protection Act. It was passed in 2002 to protect Americans from “Mamdani-like clowns” in other countries enforcing crazy warrants.
So the mayor lost, but he sort of won, too. He got his talking point and gave his fellow socialists another talking point for their next primary.
