Iran is a theocratic monarchy controlled by a single Islamic mullah, titled ayatollah. There are also 80+ other high mullahs who elect that leader, though they basically select a son of the previous ayatollah.
Iran’s center of gravity is the ayatollah and the higher level mullahs, plus all the other Iranian mullahs to a lesser degree.
Why? Because they create and sustain the fanaticism of Shia Islam’s efforts to obey Allah’s command to conquer all of humanity and convert everyone to Islam.
Shia Islam is a hostile, brutal, fanatic version of Islam that sees any and all methods of conquering humanity as tools to achieve Allah’s will. Iran’s terrorist tactics and zeal for nuclear bombs on their missiles is obedience to Allah’s will.
And of course, anything they do, any lie they tell, is justifiable as doing the will of Allah.
So, Iran’s center of gravity is its mullahs.
Therefore, we must inflict a horrific, humiliating defeat on Iran’s mullahs to end, for hopefully many decades, their power in Iran.
The only way to do this is to eliminate all of the top Iranian mullahs we can find.
The ayatollah and leading mullahs live in the holy city of Qom. It’s also the location of the most important madrassas (religious training colleges), and many venerable holy sites.

As Iran’s Islamic headquarters, Qom must be a major target for destruction because it houses the religious leaders who are Iran’s center of gravity. Iran can only be defeated by their destruction at a sufficient level that they can no longer effectively control Iran’s population.
Yes, this is bloody, brutal and necessary.
It is also the only way to defeat religious fanatics that use terrorism and deceit as their world conquest tactics of choice.
It’s also the only way we can neutralize Shia Iran’s lying promises.
Unfortunately, Western fantasies of fair play probably prohibit President Trump from doing the necessary killing.
That is why I believe capturing, and keeping, Kharg Island, which is Iran’s petroleum export facility, is necessary.
American control of Kharg Island would give us control over Iran’s main source of funds for its military ambitions. This gives America an essential economic stranglehold on the hopes of Iran’s mullahs to dominate the Persian Gulf nations and to destroy Israel.
Not as effective as killing lots of fanatic Muslim mullahs, but acceptable within Western Civilization’s dangerously soft rules of honorable combat.
A great America requires great courage and great decisions.
I hope Trump hangs tough and gives Iran a sharp thumping. Otherwise, he will just be another president kicking the Iran problem down the road to threaten future generations.
