Exactly ten years ago today, I wrote and posted my take on what six former presidents might wish to say to us on that date.

I feel those sentiments would be even more pertinent — and urgent — now, as many of us celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States.

The country was founded on courage — sheer, almost preposterous — courage.

The country is being lost through cowardice, indoctrinated ignorance, sloth, entitlement, and sheer evil. The stupidity of open borders, so-called “birthright” citizenship, and generalized amnesty has led to rapid, massive, and disruptive demographic change.

And, as Mark Steyn was wont to say, demography is destiny. Period. It should come as no surprise that Jews are being harassed and attacked, and that anti-Christian as well as anti-Jewish violence has skyrocketed in the West. It is no wonder that these new Marxist and Muslim Jacobins hate the United States, its founding, capitalism, Christianity, and its (formerly?) close relations with Israel, God’s chosen people.

The simultaneous growth in the Muslim population and the belief in socialism-Marxism-communism is a truly existential threat to the continued existence of the United States of America in specific … and the West in general. Open borders are a recipe for chaos and disaster. And, it turns out, colleges and universities across the fruited plane are naught but domestic “sleeper cells” poisoning the minds of our youth by feeding them inanities and untruths — and instructing them to hate their own country.

America was founded by those with no navy or formal military taking on the world’s pre-eminent naval and military power … because they believed it was better to perish than yield one’s liberty. And yet here we are today, meekly allowing ourselves to be written out of our own story. There can be only one destination at the end of the road on which we are traveling. Tyrannies, whether fascism, communism, Marxism — or any other — cannot allow the belief in God or higher power, because they will not allow the competition. Nothing can be bigger, better, or greater than The State. Their state, not yours, despite their promises. And remember, the bigger the state, the smaller must be the people.

As the six former presidents would say, we better relearn their critical lessons on life and government, and fast, or there will not be a Tricentennial, at least for a country the founders would recognize.

We all know the sun sets in the west. But if strong action isn’t taken now, the sun will set on the West. And hope will disappear with it.

Happy Fourth of July! But this year, in addition to enjoying our barbecues and our beer, we need to think, truly and deeply think, about what we can do to make future Fourth of July’s better … rather than unrecognizable or unobserved.
