The inevitable resignation of Kimberly Guilfoyle is a kind of welcome comic relief from this week’s other scandals, such as the dragnet closing in on Ilhan Omar. Apparently, not just Pres. Trump’s people, but even the Biden DoJ, uncovered unsavory stuff on Omar. As you may remember, Omar came to this country courtesy of her father, a henchman of the Marxist former dictator of Somalia. Once here, she may have married a brother as part of a visa scam and has long been connected to Somali Minnesota fraudsters and her son to gangbangers. Very sad.

But for now, we have Gavin Newsom’s ex-wife forced out as ambassador to Greece for soliciting gifts to maintain her lifestyle. Ms. Guilfoyle was always an energetic socialite, needing help with her celebrity status. First Gavin, part of the extended Getty family, then businessman Eric Villency; eventually to FOX News, where she was let go after a harassment scandal; and then to Donald Trump, Jr. But she seems to have really gone wrong with her Kentucky patron, Eric Deters, along the way.
Deters put out through the media and his own podcast that Guilfoyle had asked him for money but never reciprocated with any help in his various endeavors.
I don’t know Guilfoyle, but I met Eric Deters decades ago. He is a big, colorful personality, the kind you might see on the true-to-life Kentucky TV series Justified. His dad was a very successful attorney, owning banks and hotels. Eric not so much; he lost his law license in Kentucky and Ohio years ago and unsuccessfully tried to work around this handicap. He then ran for office several times, getting nowhere.
When Pres. Trump came along in 2016, Deters was one of the first to financially back him in Kentucky, gaining access to the Trump inner circle. At this point, he seems to have become fixated on a fugitive Pakistani plastic surgeon and the possibility of big money lawsuits if he could get the guy extradited back to America. Seems he was doing all kinds of unnecessary surgeries. (Again, another real-life character from Justified) But even if possible, this would be a hard case in which a suspended lawyer might collect fees.

Guilfoyle insisted she could help him, as well as get him on the Tucker Carlson show and maybe even have Kid Rock look at a song he wrote.
Reviewing the Honey, please, texts they exchanged, I don’t see much case for criminality. Guilfoyle wasn’t a government official at the time, but a long-standing official of a Trump PAC. If the $300k he said he gave her was for that, no problem. And if it was to lobby Kid Rock or Tucker, that would only be a crime against good taste. In any event, she seems not to have done anything for him and understood Deters was trying to inveigle her into his own weird agenda.
It’s possible that Guilfoyle later broke some State Department rules if she accepted gifts while in Greece. This may lead to fines and penalties after an investigation. Then again, for all of the Hillary Clinton corruption at the State Department, she might have been given the electric chair, but instead got off scot-free. By those standards, I don’t see much happening to the former ambassador, who will no doubt land on her feet somewhere in Palm Beach, most likely.
After some cable TV jokes about plastic surgery, I think this fluffy nothing of a scandal will be forgotten in a week. We can then go back to Somali warlords in the Twin Cities, Jew-hating Muslim Democrats in New York and Michigan, and the many other thieves, kooks, and incompetents who run much of our country. The real scandal of our time.
