I was recently reminiscing about the COVID hoax. Not the virus; that was real. The hysteria surrounding it, which we now know to have been lies, and a power grab. Public health officials like Dr. Anthony Fauci and politicians got to see how many Americans would put up with near-total infringement on their rights, and really, really didn’t want to give up their power. What they eventually discovered was: Americans hate them, won’t ever be fooled like that again, and absolutely distrust public health bureaucrats. They’ve always distrusted government.

That knowledge came hard and took time:

Yeah. We now know it’s shame on anyone believing that lying, malignant troll and his defenders.

COVID hit during the final year of my teaching career. My school shut down after Spring break. We pretended to teach via “distance learning,” and kids pretended to learn, and they all passed. I never saw 99% of them again.

We flew from Texas to Wyoming to make arrangements for the home we were buying. On the regional jet last leg, we were among only three passengers, and everyone took off their masks and relaxed.

We U-Hauled from Texas to Wyoming. Most quick shops required employees to wear masks, but they largely ignored the hysteria and didn’t mask Nazi us. McDonald’s restaurants, and a few other fast-food chains, were about the only places to eat, and they required masks and six-foot distancing and served, slowly, only with paper bags delivered at arm’s length. Drive-throughs were closed.

I got COVID but missed most symptoms except fatigue. My wife, seven years older, was hit harder and ended up in the hospital for a few days with blood clots in her lungs due to forced inactivity. When I escorted her to her hospital room, the masked nurse pulled her mask down and announced we could unmask in the room, but not the hallways, to which I quipped: “So, viruses only propagate in hallways, but not rooms?” Initially startled, she laughed for five minutes.

Do you remember:

*Being forced to mask pretty much everywhere and hating the mask Nazis?

*Staying away from mask Nazi businesses and patronizing rational businesses?

*Knowing the damned things didn’t prevent transmitting or contracting the virus—it was like expecting chain-link fences to stop mosquitoes–and finding out you were right all along?

*The six-foot rule and little signs on the floors of businesses, particularly grocery stores, enforcing it, and being really annoyed by them?

*Knowing that distance/rule was nonsense and finding out Fauci—the malignant little troll–just made it up?

*Wanting to squash Fauci and the rest like bugs?

*Having to wear masks into restaurants until you sat down, because apparently, viruses only exist five feet above floor level?

*Little plexiglass shields at checkout counters, because they projected magic force fields that viruses couldn’t go over or around?

*Having to wait in line for a little toilet paper guarded by police officers?

*Remember “trust the science?” Yeah, that was a good one.

*Fauci saying criticism of him was an “attack on science,” and how that made you ready to attack “the science?”

*Churches forcibly shut down, Christians, including ministers, arrested, and Christians in their cars in church parking lots listening to services on their radios, chased out or arrested?

*People, alone on beaches and in parks, or exercising, arrested?

*Being forced to submit to COVID vaccines and boosters, and Joe Biden and the health mafia claiming they absolutely prevented transmission and contracting the virus?

*Getting really angry when you learned the vaccines really weren’t vaccines at all?

*Getting really, really angry when you learned the vaccines killed people and the drug makers, public health Nazis, and politicians knew they would but forced them on people anyway?

*Getting blazing angry at the politicians and public health Nazis who forced so many Americans to die, miserable and alone, due to unnecessary quarantines?

*Finding out which of your neighbors, friends, and even extended family members were Stalinist useful idiots as they informed on everyone not obeying the rules?

*Finding out which of your neighbors, friends, and even extended family members would willingly abandon their rights in a panic?

*Watching schools put band kids in little, individual tents?

*Watching kids singing in school choirs forced to wear masks that resembled the kinds of feeding masks once used for horses?

*Watching your kids lose a year or more of intellectual growth?

*Watching bizarre and ineffective cleaning rituals at businesses and elsewhere?

*Raging at politicians and public health Nazis who locked us in our homes but declared violent leftist protests completely safe? Apparently, leftists in huge groups outdoors were immune from the virus and didn’t have to practice any of the rules forced on Normal Americans.

I remember that and so much more. I wish I, and every American, never had to.
