They’ve been married since 1936, ever since Franklin D. Roosevelt’s landslide victory. Back then, she couldn’t get into a Republican-controlled country club, but the Donkey welcomed her. He was far from perfect; he was sometimes seen in a and a hood, and he had re-segregated the federal civil service a mere 23 years previously.

She overlooked it when the Donkey sent the Jews on the Saint Louis back to Europe to be killed in the Holocaust. When some of his friends like Bull Connor and George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse door with police dogs and fire hoses to keep black people out, though, she steered him in the direction of civil rights. “In some ways, civil rights became a way to define one’s Jewishness.” The marriage had its rough spots, but it was largely successful ever since — at least until the past ten or twenty years.
The Donkey began to hang out with a new crowd of people, a very bad crowd. His new friends included Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Abdul El-Sayed, Zohran Mamdani, and some unsavory people in New York City, Minnesota, and Michigan. He made a Black Lives Matter director, Minyon Moore, chair of his 2024 National Convention. BLM, a black nationalist (per its own website) and antisemitic (denies the right of Israel to exist) entity, supports convicted terrorist Rasmea Odeh. Odeh murdered two Jews with a bomb and tried to murder emergency responders with a second bomb, but the Israelis found the second one in time. BLM also said that convicted cop-killer Assata Shakur, and the murderous Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, should both “rest in power.” He invited other anti-Israel, if not flat-out antisemitic, friends to his 2024 National Convention. He dressed in a Palestinian keffiyeh to fit in with his new friends. His new friends gave him drugs riddled with antisemitic poison.
The Jewish voter didn’t feel safe around the Donkey’s new friends, not safe at all. Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel said, “I feel like my presence isn’t going to be welcome. I don’t want to get chased around. I don’t want to get harassed. I don’t want to get yelled and screamed at. I don’t want to get booed off the stage, irrespective of what I’m saying. And I believe that if I go, that is what will happen because it’s been happening to me.”
The fact that harassment of any person because of that person’s race, ethnicity, religion, or sex does not result in the immediate removal of those involved from Democrat events tells us everything we need to know. If rabbis have to ask the Democrat party to protect Jewish attendees, there should be no Jewish attendees and no Jewish Democrats. Nessel comes across like the battered spouse who is unwilling to leave her abuser.
Maybe the Jewish voter should have seen it coming sooner. In 2006, the Donkey hitched up with MoveOn.org whose moderated Action Forum hosted vicious antisemitic commentary, including the slur “Jew Lieberman,” along with anti-Catholic hate speech such as “the Catholics are raping your children.” MoveOn’s moderators knew about it, and their community voted widespread approval of the hate speech in question. Barack Obama’s moderated discussion forum (2007 time frame) included antisemitic material as well, along with a moderator’s suggestion that people use “Israel lobby” as a substitute for “Jewish lobby.” Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, spewed anti-Israel hatred and, like Hasan Piker, implied that the U.S. deserved 9/11 (“America’s chickens are coming home to roost.”). The Jewish voter should have definitely seen it in 2023, when the Donkey did little or nothing about antisemitic harassment at major universities and in the streets of places like New York City. The Donkey also consorts openly with Al Sharpton and his National Action Network. Sharpton helped turn New York City into 1938 Germany for Jews on two occasions (Crown Heights riots, Freddy’s Fashion Mart).
One day, the Donkey came home to the Jewish voter in a drunken rage, muttering incoherently about “justice in Palestine.” He was in his keffiyeh, and he held an empty whisky bottle with a Palestinian flag on it. He slapped her face, slammed her into a wall, and yelled “Zionist!” along with an offensive word for a female dog. To be more precise, “This summer, a majority of the Democratic U.S. House caucus — including two members of the North Carolina delegation, Deborah Ross and Valerie Foushee — voted to end aid to Israel.” Israel is not our country, but it’s the closest thing to our country in the Middle East. Unlike its neighbors, it has equal rights for all people, just as we do.

A few of the Donkey’s friends stepped between them and said, “Don’t hit your lady.” Blue Dog Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) wrote, “Today, too many Democrats are noticeably and shamefully silent when antisemitism comes from the far left — at a moment when the Anti-Defamation League is reporting a surge of antisemitic incidents in the past three years.” The Donkey shoved Gottheimer, Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.), and John Fetterman (D-Pa.) aside and said, with the Palestinian flag whisky slurring every word, “Don’t tell me how to run my house!” The Donkey took a swing at Fetterman but was so drunk that he fell over and landed on the floor.
“What did I do wrong?” the Jewish voter wondered while she cried and nursed her bruises. “Maybe he will love me again if I falsely accuse Israel of genocide, like Brad Lander did in New York.” Lander effectively got on his knees and begged the Hamas-supporters to accept him if only he would carry their water, and they treated him like dirt anyway. The Jewish voter imitated Lander, and also made haste to acknowledge her white and Jewish privilege.
It didn’t do any good. The next time, the Donkey slammed his fist into her mouth by standing behind Zohran Mamdani and Abdul El-Sayed, and with 100 of his friends voting to cut military aid to Israel. Jewish Insider adds, “House Democrats overwhelmingly voted against a bill that would strip federal funding from colleges and universities engaged in boycotts of Israel, with just 33 Democrats supporting the measure.” “What did I do wrong?” the Jewish voter wondered again.
What she did wrong is obvious. She didn’t walk out the first time he hit her, regardless of how long they have been together. Many Jewish former Democrats, such as Alan Dershowitz and Pennsylvania jurist David Wecht, have done exactly that. If Dana Nessel had any self-respect, she would as well.
The battered Jewish voter looked past her partner of ninety years to see an Elephant. He wasn’t the same Elephant who didn’t welcome people like her into his country clubs decades ago. His friends now included people like her. There were, in fact, people of all races and ethnicities, the American melting pot. The Elephant was using his fists on college antisemites. “The Republican-majority chamber voted 237-169 in favor of the ‘Protect Economic and Academic Freedom Act,’ which would have to pass the Senate in order to become law.” All but two of the Elephant’s friends in the House voted to support this legislation, whereas only 33 of the Donkey’s friends did.
The Jewish voter realized that the Donkey she had married ninety years ago was no longer the same Donkey. He had become a domestic abuser, and she was no longer safe under his roof. It was time for a divorce. She would have to think about whether she wanted to live alone as an independent or take up residence in the Elephant’s tent, but at least a clear path to a safe future was in front of her.
