I have a fair amount of interest in true crime—the only time I’ll listen to a podcast is if that’s the topic—so I’ve been somewhat following the Lindsay Clancy case. (In another life, one in which I could handle intensely distressing scenes day in and day out, I’d have been a detective, where my lust for justice could have actually been put to great use.)

If you’re not tracking, Lindsay is the Massachusetts nurse and mother who’s currently on trial, accused of viciously murdering her three young children, Cora, Dawson, and Callan, by strangling them with exercise bands. While neither Lindsay nor her lawyers dispute that she committed the acts, her lawyers are arguing that she’s not responsible because she was suffering from severe mental issues—bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis—at the time of the murders, diagnoses confirmed by a forensic psychologist.
Yet, there’s a massive coalition of women rushing to Lindsay’s defense—kids be damned—blaming the healthcare system, blaming men, blaming her at-the-time husband Patrick, and even taking Lindsay’s admission that she felt outside of her body during the killings to suggest that she was actually watching her ex-husband’s now-wife commit the acts, because the two women look shockingly similar.
Just look at some of these posts:
Bad enough to “relate” to a child killer. To do it while holding your baby is, to put it mildly, an alarming decision. pic.twitter.com/AyVCtxyBPQ

Actress Lisa Rinna says she and her female therapist agreed that Patrick Clancy killed his children, not Lindsay Clancy, because “women don’t strangle.”
“[My therapist] looks at me and she goes, ‘He did it.’ I was like, ‘Wow, yeah.'”

As of two days ago, fans of Lindsay Clancy had raised more than half-a-million dollars for her:

(That number is edging toward a million as of this morning.)
She is the Karmelo Anthony for white (leftist) women.
I’ll admit, I find something about Patrick unsettling (and there are some odd discrepancies in his testimony), and I don’t think the timelines regarding his marriage to Lindsay and his marriage to his new wife are entirely clean, but Lindsay admitted she did it, and isn’t changing her story. Sure, it could be some grand conspiracy…or it could just be another mother who snapped and killed her kids.
But why are women so invested in proclaiming Lindsay innocent?
Well, because a shocking number of the women are no doubt…post-abortive.
They too have killed their kids in cold blood, and they see themselves in Lindsay. They need a scapegoat for when women murder their own, because they can’t face what they too have actually done. To justify their actions, they need to excuse Lindsay’s.

At least, that’s my working theory.
