Tin Ear: Vatican News reports that bishop of Ceuta vows to support marauding migrant ‘needs’

After the entire world gasped in horror at the specter of 60,000 invaders from Morocco pillaging and looting the Spanish city of Ceuta, one could only wonder if the Vatican had finally been chastised or shocked into sense for its pseudo-compassionate stance on illegal immigration over tthe needs of the Western communities paying the price.

After all, Pope Leo did make showy trips to Spain in June, (and to Lampedusa, Italy in July), to effectively champion illegal immigration. He threw a wreath in the sea to honor migrants lost at sea in the act of attempting to enter Spain illegally, and called for ‘justice’ for illegal border crossers.

Nevertheless, for the first time, he tempered his remarks with talk of ‘balancing’ the needs of migrants and local communities, called on illegal migrants to assimilate, and warned of hellfire and damnation for human smugglers, so his position was obviously beginning to moderate, He seemed to be evolving.

But his bishop in Ceuta clearly didn’t get the memo.

In a statement released on 30 July 2026, the local Church expressed its closeness to all those affected by the crisis and reaffirmed its readiness to work alongside public authorities in responding to the humanitarian emergency.

As an initial concrete measure, the Diocese announced that all collections taken this weekend in Ceuta’s parishes will be allocated to the Diocesan Office for Migrants. The funds will be channelled through the San Antonio Migrant Assistance Centre, which will address the most urgent needs in coordination with the relevant services.

Diocesan sources explained that, for the time being, the local Church’s resources remain limited and that it is awaiting further guidance from the unified command established by the Government of the Autonomous City to coordinate the emergency response.

Nevertheless, they stressed that the Diocese stands ready to place all of its available humanitarian resources at the disposal of the authorities and to respond to whatever needs arise as the situation develops.

The Diocese concluded by thanking the faithful and all people of goodwill who wish to support the initiative.

It also invited Christian communities to intensify their prayers for all those suffering the consequences of this crisis, for the authorities entrusted with managing it, and for everyone working to build paths of peace, justice, and hope.

Not a word of compassion for the Spanish women mauled and terrorized by the invaders, the Spanish citizens stabbed and assaulted in the streets, the businesses looted of food, leaving the citizens nothing to buy, the blazes set in the city, the cars burned, the homes invaded, the trash flung and desecration of graves by marauding migrant invaders. Just a lot of undifferentiated both-sides compassion, with not a word of mention of the problem coming from the migrants, and no moral distinctions between the victims and the victimizes.

It was premised on an astounding failure to define terms. Were these raiders really ‘migrants’ seeking asylum from oppression and war in their homelands? I don’t think so. Yet the bihop seemed to project that the invaders were pitiful huddled masses fleeing war if not looking for free stuff, and not the vicious invading criminals with only the worst intentions for the country their feckless government had made a target of opportunity.

What happened to Ceuta was literally a raid, by tens of thousands of military-aged young men carrying no luggage but cloaked with the phony label of  ‘asylum seekers’ simply because they were from the third world. Their dreams of plunder were the only visible evidence of their intentions and yet, they were able to use the label of ‘migrants’ and asylum seekers to allow themselves to do what they wanted to do.

If this were a Viking raid, would the pillaging look any different? And would the local bishop of Ceuta step forward and offer up the church plate to meet the Vikings’ ‘needs’?

Let’s just say it didn’t happen that way when the Vikings raided the Spanish and north African coasts (famously sacking Seville) in the past.

The  pope, by the way, still isn’t all there yet, either, on what happened, not a word of condemnation for the migrants who invaded, assaulted, robbed and trashed the citizens and city of Ceuta:

Justice is sending the invaders and criminals back at a minimum, and punishing and jailing the worst of them where possible.

But the Vatican’s minions can only express the same old inflexible line about migrants fleeing war and oppression, with no admission of what the true picture is and who the real victims are.

That’s ugly stuff, an immoral devil’s-imitation-of-compassion, and explains well why Spain has a lot of empty churches. Until there’s some capacity of distinguishing right from wrong, and admission of who the real victims are who need compassion, they’re going to have a tough time asserting any moral authority on any other matter. Their globalized ‘compassion’ for both victims and victimizers is effectively siding with the third-world criminals over Spain’s faithful and the Spanish citizens.
