If there is any consistency in the universe, it’s that leftists will lie and use force to get their way.
And in the fast-approaching midterm election season, you can be sure that they will falsely assert this is a conflict with ‘fascism.‘ They do this while saying that President Trump is the second coming of Hitler and that MAGA is a reborn Νazi party.
Meanwhile, they will also claim that it’s ‘fear-mongering‘ and ‘extremist‘ to label them communists or the even better term communazis. This, as they fight other Democrats.
History is not on their side. Webster’s dictionary edition from 1842 – five years before the Communist Manifesto was published — states that the new French word ‘communism’ was nearly synonymous with agrarianism, socialism, and [radicalism].
COM’MU-NISM, n. [Fr. commune, common.] Community of property among all the citizens of a state; a new French word nearly synonymous with agrarianism, socialism, and [radicalism.]
That is from Webster, N. (1842) An American Dictionary of the English Language Page: 952.
The same dictionary from 1842 defined socialism in nearly the same words and referred back to the term communism:
SOCIAL-ISM, (so’shal-ism,) n. A social state in which there is a community of property among all the citizens-a new term for agrarianism. See COMMUNISM.

Other dictionaries of the same period had similar definitions.
It was just after the inception of the non-Marxist variants of leftist collectivism of fascism and Nazism in the late 1930s that the far-left in the states began to hurl these kinds of bizarre labels following the collapse of the infamous 1939 Ribbentrop-Molotov pact which led to Hitler’s invasion of the U.S.S.R.
But it actually began a little earlier, as in this news story from the New York Times from Oct. 18, 1936, in the campaign for President Roosevelt, it’s asserted that the Republican candidate aims at a ‘fascist state:’

Or this accusation of Oct. 29, 1936 from the Democrats, in this case Roosevelt cabinet member Harold Ickes, that the Republican candidate Alf Landon, who was challenging the New Deal, would lead to communism or fascism: See the New York Times, Oct. 29, 1936:
Communism or Fascism, Ickes holds issue is justice or ruin; Warns ‘Reaction’ Under Landon Would Lead Eventually to Communism or Fascism.
They were a little, so to say, inclusive.
But it’s always been in the playbook of the left to pretend that they’re fighting against ‘fascism’ instead of economic freedom. This deflection lets them avoid the horrible history of their loser ideology.

At the same time, they falsely call conservatives ‘fascists,’ except that their own infighting destroys the primary talking point for their 100-year-old falsehoods. And as we approach the midterms, you can be assured that they will trot out their tired old lies that while they may be communists, they at least aren’t fascists.
Point out the obvious fact that National Socialism was socialist. And the knee-jerk reaction from the left will be that they were in conflict with other collectivists, and in this example from a few years ago from the prestigious Oxford Union Society when British journalist, author, and politician Daniel Hannan opened with a quote from a previous socialist known as Adolf Hitler:
I am a socialist, and a very different kind of socialist from your rich friend Reventlow. I was once an ordinary working-man. I would not allow my chauffeur to eat’ worse than I eat myself.

The first reaction from the other side of the House was to point out the conflict of the brown Bolsheviks of the Third Reich with other collectivists, just the same as the red fascists of the Soviet Union.
Except that now, they are also in conflict with other collectivists, eviscerating that this little false factoid. So now they have nothing to say when we point out all of these citations that prove that Hitler and his National Socialists were socialists.
In 1918 – in the interim no Party Conferences were able to take place – this finally occurred; at the same time, the party’s now more clearly-defined socialist character was also reflected in the adoption of its new name.

To be a socialist means subordinating the I to the You, sacrificing oneself for the whole. Socialism is service in the deepest sense: renunciation of individuality for the sake of the whole.

Of course, this ridiculous talking point never actually proved anything. After all, there are conflicts between different Islamic sects, and yet no one claims they aren’t Islamic.
Rest assured that in the next few weeks, the 90-year-old playbook will be dusted off, and we’ll see a steady regurgitation of the same old lies. Except now, the left has gone full Kirk Lazarus in warring with itself in negating the primary talking point that helps them deny reality.
