How do people this stupid get elected to Congress?

Rep. @AOC: The U.S. Senate “was founded on, uh, you know, Jim Crow”

Stupid voters perhaps.

But Rep.  Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has outdone herself with this babbling answer.

As a leftist, it’s a safe bet that she’s steeped in the 1619 Project, which promotes the idea that the U.S. is flawed since its inception.

Now, with Democratic Socialists of America promoting the wild-ass idea of abolishing the Senate, the better to give big blue states total dominance over small rural states, (and collectivize their farms accordingly), she seems to have put the two and two together, and gotten twenty-two.

No, the Senate was not founded on Jim Crow. The Senate was established by the Founders in 1787 as one of a bi-cameral institution of Congress a established by the Constitution, to ensure that smaller states had the same sovereign voice as bigger states in the broader lawmaking for the nation — otherwise, they would be smothered by bigger states and thus, would not have any reason to join the union.

Jim Crow, on the other hand, was established after the Civil War and Reconstruction, and codified in 1877 by racist Democrats embittered at losing the Civil War. That’s nearly a hundred years after the establishment of the Senate. The first black Senator, by the way, Hiram Rhodes Revels of Mississippi, was a Republican elected in 1870 before the racist Democrats could get the hooks in and rig black people out of public life, well before the codification of the first Jim Crow laws.

This is such basic history I am not bothering with links. Why AOC would be so ignorant of the matter speaks ill of her education and understanding of the U.S., and automaton-like promotion of DSA positions, which is an ugly programming indeed.

AT founder Thomas Lifson had a funny observation on the AOC ignorance of basic historic facts, shared with AT editors this morning, which I think could explain what’s happening:

I can’t recall anyone rivaling her combination of ignorance and self confidence. It must come from having been an attractive bartender, whose tipsy male customers would grin and tip no matter what came out of her mouth.

No kidding. AT managing editor Andrea Widburg added:

She’s a very dangerous knucklehead because she has true demagogue potential. Her prettiness, certainty, ignorance, and foul ideology are a toxic brew.

I gotta agree fully.
