I’m not someone who watches horror movies, literally ever, because I hate them. I don’t find anything artistic, creative, or impressive about sadistic and macabre productions, I don’t agree with fictionalizing horrendous realities that human beings have actually experienced for cheap gratification, and there’s nothing I personally enjoy about filling my mind with deeply disturbing sights and sounds—and even if I did, my personal Christian faith precludes me from dabbling in media I’m convicted is literally very demonic. (Plus, my job requires me to be in the news, which is horrifying enough, as evidenced by the point to which I’m getting.)

But there are people who do, and there’s a massive culture around this genre, which is massively profitable—horror filmgoers are known for being an “intensely loyal fanbase.” So, in that vein, I recommend these people take a trip to Spain, where they can enjoy the Mediterranean and watch horror-flick gore in real time! Kill two birds with one stone.

If you don’t want to click on it, I don’t blame you one bit, so allow me to explain: one migrant, theatrically covered in blood like he’s on the set of a slasher film, stands over the equally bloody body (corpse?) of another migrant, after beating him with a hammer. I hate to say this, but I’m just glad it wasn’t a child, and it wasn’t a real Spaniard.
In the words of Sadiq Khan, who noted that Islamic terrorism was just “part and parcel” of “diversity” in the big city, now literal horror scenes are “part and parcel” of the Spanish coastal life too.
