TDS has reached a point of saturation. It seems that you can’t log onto a site, watch a show, or walk out of the house without seeing the squirrels in the trees ranting about Donald Trump.

There’s nothing new about this. It occurs every time a successful conservative president or leader appears, usually at some point in the second term. People start insulting, libeling, and fabulating constantly, compulsively, and without any discernible limit. One instance that stuck in my mind for some reason was a piece I read, back in the day, in Omni, Bob Guccione’s “science” magazine, in which one scientist was being interviewed about another: “He’s a completely decent human being, unlike Reagan, who is vicious to the core.”
Now, nobody had said a damn thing about Ronald Reagan. Nobody had asked about him, nobody had brought him up, he had nothing to do with the topic. That was just the way you talked in 1987 if you were fine, indoctrinated, goodthink liberal.
We’re at the same point with Donald Trump. Examples are myriad, but here are some I came across this weekend while prowling the web for article ideas.
The first involves John Waters, the notorious trash filmmaker. Waters was commenting on a film by Pier Paulo Pasolini titled Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom. This, Pasolini’s final film, is often cited as one of the most repellent ever made. It was a film version of a work by Marquis de Sade, with the setting changed from pre-revolutionary France to fascist Italy. A group of high-ranking fascist officials kidnaps a number of young people, both male and female, to subject them to endless bouts of torture and sexual depravity.
Pasolini, himself a communist, attempted to pass off this piece of high-market porn as an attack on fascism. The problem with this claim is that the fascists, like all modernist tyrants, were puritans. They were hypocrites too – Mussolini himself had a young mistress – but the kind of crazed debauchery depicted here is simply alien to the fascist mindset. (Il Duce also had Aleister Crowley, the “Beast 666” thrown out of Italy when he learned that Crowley’s cult was engaging in “sex magick” at their temple in Sicily. You could go only so far in the fascist paradise, but no farther.)
But Waters isn’t willing to leave it at that:
“So different from today’s political situation? Replace these evil ruling-class monsters with Trump’s circle, and it could be the same circle. The moral of the story would still work.”

Sure – that makes perfect sense. The guy who banned Jeffrey Epstein from Mar-a-Lago, and then dimed him to the Palm Beach cops, is the most likely to run a Sadean orgy.
Actually, if somebody decided to do a remake, it would have to feature Bill Clinton and Noam Chomsky, among many others.
We can add to that a story concerning large amounts of San Francisco police drone footage being illegally released and making the rounds. This comes as no surprise. The demented levels of surveillance occurring these days are ripe for abuse, and, past being prologue, will be abused in leftist areas first and above all. But that just wasn’t good enough for the reporter in this case, who just had to add “This is a reason for worry, particularly with the administration we have in Washington.”
Oh, yeah. Here we have a story out of the most left-wing city in the most left-wing state in the country. But it’s Trump’s fault. Because, y’know, he’s Trump.
And finally, I saw a clip of Da Boss himself at a recent show. “I’m so tired of this president,” he bellowed to his adoring fans, followed with a guitar chord. “So tired.” (guitar chord.) “So tired of this president.” (guitar chord.) That’s what happens when you forget how the songs go.
What the Dems are forgetting (and what their media consultants, eager for the next check, won’t tell them), is that there’s nothing after saturation. Once it’s being repeated ad nauseam, 24/7, by aging rock stars, has-been filmmakers, local anchors, truck drivers, schoolteachers, sales reps, drag queens, and poodle groomers, that’s it. There is no next step. It just keeps on being repeated by rock stars, etc. And people get sick of hearing it. They stop paying attention. They start tuning out.
