The DOJ\u2019s Civil Rights Division has long been an exclusive preserve of Democrats, trending toward contemporary Democrats who are also Marxists and Islamists. For decades, the CRD ignored rights that did not support Democrat policies and desires. With the second Trump Administration, the CRD\u2019s new Second Amendment section is now suing government entities that are infringing on Americans\u2019 Second Amendment liberties, and Democrats are apoplectic, as Jennifer Mascia at The Trace explains:<\/p>

The Civil Rights Division typically fights for the disempowered by enforcing federal anti-discrimination statutes. It was created in 1957 to ensure Black voting rights and school desegregation. Gun rights \u201chave never been a focus,\u201d said Megan Marks, a former attorney in the division who is now deputy director and managing editor of\u00a0Red Line for Civil Rights, a\u00a0nonprofit\u00a0initiative that tracks the politicization of civil rights enforcement under President Donald Trump. \u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ah. Enforcement of civil rights is \u201cpoliticized\u201d when a Republican administration decides to not only enforce Democrat priorities, but also other, legitimate constitutional liberties Democrats want to suppress. Of course.<\/p>\n

\n

The DOJ\u2019s suits come at a time when the Trump administration has departed from more traditional civil rights issues \u2013 discrimination against marginalized groups based on race, sex, disability, and religion \u2013 by pursuing conservative policies, reshaping DEI initiatives, investigating \u201creverse discrimination,\u201d and suing universities over affirmative action practices. \u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Many of which are illegal, but previously ignored.<\/p>\n

\n

Some experts and veteran civil rights attorneys said they are troubled by the Justice Department\u2019s new direction. \u201cThe history of racial discrimination in the U.S. is this deep scar, while gun rights were never really under assault in a country that has\u00a0more guns\u00a0than people,\u201d said John Donohue, a law professor at Stanford University. He said the Second Amendment Section is unnecessary because an army of well-funded pro-gun groups \u201care constantly bringing litigation.\u201d He also pointed to the financial burden for states and municipalities that will have to spend money defending their laws in court.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cExperts?\u201d Expert in what? Propaganda? Trying to obliterate the Second Amendment? Gun rights have never been under assault because Americans own a lot of guns? Apparently, \u201cexperts and veteran civil rights attorneys\u201d live in some other country, some other reality. In this reality, gun rights are under constant assault, particularly in blue states and cities.<\/p>\n

The financial burdens of \u201cstates and municipalities,\u201d and the lawsuits of \u201cwell-funded pro-gun groups\u201d can be immediately alleviated\u00a0when states and municipalities no longer enact blatantly unconstitutional laws–laws they know to be unconstitutional–to \u201cmake a statement,\u201d virtual signal, and harass, even imprison, law-abiding gun owners until their anti-liberty\/gun laws are inevitably overturned.<\/p>\n

In the section\u2019s first six months of operation, the Justice Department has\u00a0brought cases\u00a0against police departments in Los Angeles County and the Virgin Islands, the city of Denver, the state of Colorado, and the nation\u2019s capital, Washington, DC. Virginia may be next: Minutes after Gov. Abigail Spanberger\u00a0signed\u00a0an assault weapon ban last month, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon\u00a0posted on X, \u201cSee you in court!\u201d<\/p>\n

Spanberger ran as a moderate Democrat, a species as dead as dinosaurs, but immediately upon taking office, threw off that disguise and legislated as a contemporary, anti-American, anti-Constitution, Marxist, Islamist Democrat. There is no such thing as an \u201cassault weapon.\u201d That\u2019s a term invented by Democrats for propaganda. Using the term in legislation does not conjure such things out of thin air. What they\u2019re really banning is AR-15s and similar semi-automatic rifles, the most popular in America, which absolutely fit the Supreme Court\u2019s definition of commonly owned and used, presumptively constitutional, arms.<\/p>\n

Not surprisingly, pro-gun organizations are thrilled with the Civil Rights Division\u2019s new direction. \u201cIt\u2019s great to have that giant 800-pound gorilla in the room with us,\u201d said Kostas Moros, director of legal research and education for the Second Amendment Foundation, which has more than 50 active lawsuits seeking to void gun laws across the country. \u201cBecause courts, like it or not, do take the DOJ more seriously. And frankly it\u2019s nice to have the DOJ at least seeing the Second Amendment as equal to all the other rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, in affirmed that the Second Amendment \u201cis not a second-class right.\u201d That followed the Court\u2019s Heller decision,\u00a0both of which affirm that the Second Amendment acknowledges, but does not create, a fundamental, unalienable, individual right to keep and bear arms. That right, as with others, comes from God.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why \u201cexperts\u201d are so upset with the DOJ. For the first time in decades, it\u2019s upholding the individual rights of Americans Democrats have so long ignored or suppressed.\u00a0It\u2019s about time.<\/p>\n
