A recent case in point is New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who, shortly before 9-11, chose an insult that goes beyond even his potential presence at memorial observances,\u00a0as Ben Smith at\u00a0Legal Insurrection<\/em>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n

Mayor Zohran Mamdani spent Friday\u00a0signing\u00a0two executive orders tied to the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, then handed the ceremonial pen to Ramzi Kassem, his chief counsel and a man who spent years defending an al-Qaeda operative convicted in a terrorist plot.<\/p>\n

The City Hall ceremony covered a pair of 9\/11-related orders, one establishing a Day of Remembrance and another aimed at strengthening the city\u2019s defenses against future terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n

After signing the final document, Mamdani\u00a0handed\u00a0the pen to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and quietly asked, \u201cCan you pass this?\u201d Tisch passed it to Kassem, who had entered the press conference roughly 15 minutes late.\u00a0He left shortly afterward, just behind Tisch.<\/p>\n

Kassem and his legal team actually helped write both executive orders, according to the mayor\u2019s office<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

How could this be anything other than a calculated insult, an in-your-face, taunting Islamist celebration of the nearly 3000 murders Mamdani\u2019s fellow jihadists committed? And who better to serve as Chief Counsel and to write the executive orders than another Muslim who furthered Jihad by defending Islamists?<\/p>\n

In the legal tradition of our constitutional, representative republic, everyone, even the worst monster imaginable, is accorded the 6th<\/sup>\u00a0Amendment right to effective counsel. Founder John Adams defended British soldiers accused of murder in the Boston Massacre. But Islamists, as part of their faith and tactics, subvert the civilized practices of those they seek to destroy and conquer. They delight in that kind of irony and evil. It wasn\u2019t Kassem\u2019s only contribution to Jihad:<\/p>\n

\n

Kassem\u2019s\u00a0record\u00a0goes well beyond the al-Darbi case. He served as a senior immigration policy adviser on Biden\u2019s White House Domestic Policy Council, later represented\u00a0Mahmoud Khalil<\/strong>, the Columbia University activist detained by ICE following anti-Israel campus demonstrations, and was tapped by Mamdani as chief counsel last December.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Islamists, like Communists, also use willingly useful idiots like Biden\u2019s Handlers. That they were co-conspirators in helping import all manner of criminals, hostile spies, and Muslim terrorists makes them no less useful idiots. Anything to destroy the \u201cGreat Satan\u201d from within.<\/p>\n

The Islamist connections are never-ending:<\/p>\n

\n

Kassem served as lead counsel for Ahmed al-Darbi, an al-Qaeda operative who pleaded guilty in 2014 to conspiracy over the 2002 bombing of the French oil tanker\u00a0MV Limburg<\/em>\u00a0off Yemen.\u00a0One civilian was killed, and several others were injured.\u00a0Al-Darbi was\u00a0convicted\u00a0in 2017 and transferred from Guant\u00e1namo Bay to Saudi Arabia the following year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Al-Darbi also had a family connection to the September 11 attacks.\u00a0His sister was\u00a0married\u00a0to Khalid al-Mihdhar, one of the hijackers aboard the plane that struck the Pentagon.<\/p>

New Yorkers, who haven\u2019t forgotten 9-11, and who understand jihadists\u2019 deceptions and intentions, were predictably outraged:<\/p>\n

Retired NYPD detective Michael Alcazar, now an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, didn\u2019t mince words.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was calculated. It happened during a ceremony meant to be about the victims, and no one else.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alcazar said Tisch had been \u201creduced to a prop\u201d while Mamdani put the spotlight on Kassem.<\/p>\n

Dennis Warchola\u2019s brother Michael, a Ladder 5 firefighter, was killed in the North Tower. He didn\u2019t hold back.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s bulls\u2013t. How can you defend a guy like that who wants to do Americans or any innocent person harm?\u201d<\/p>\n

Elected officials echoed the anger. Council Member Joann Ariola (R-Queens) called the move \u201cbreathtakingly tone-deaf and disrespectful,\u201d saying 9\/11 families should not have to endure \u201cyet another insult\u201d on the 25th anniversary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Petitions are circulating demanding that Mandani and New York Governor Kathy Hochul stay away from 9\/11 ceremonies. They will ignore them. They too remember 9\/11. They hate America and Americans,\u00a0and they\u2019re determined to profane honorable remembrances by their presence and false, rhetorical expressions of sadness and piety.<\/p>\n
