{"id":5915,"date":"2026-09-08T11:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T11:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/interstatelogisticshubs.com\/?p=5915"},"modified":"2026-09-08T11:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T11:40:09","slug":"talaricos-cynical-rebranding-is-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/interstatelogisticshubs.com\/?p=5915","title":{"rendered":"Talarico\u2019s cynical rebranding is here"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The first money truck has arrived in Texas, and you can see early results on local TV.\u00a0The ads about Talarico\u2019s record are showing up a lot.\u00a0The first money truck is from\u00a0MAGA:<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/interstatelogisticshubs.com\/?p=5913\">Should we rename New Mexico?<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>After weeks of speculation about whether President Donald Trump would deploy his vast campaign resources in Texas, MAGA Inc., the main pro-Trump super PAC, made a $10 million ad buy in the Texas Senate race.<\/p>\n<p>The buy, which goes towards television streaming and digital advertising, is MAGA Inc.\u2019s first expenditure of the general election, signalling the importance of the Texas Senate race to Trump\u2019s political operation and the competitive nature of the contest.<\/p>\n<p>Half of the $10 million tranche will go towards positive advertising boosting Republican Ken Paxton, an ally of the president, while the other half will go toward negative messaging against Democrat James Talarico. The ad spend was disclosed in an FEC filing Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As I mentioned, the results are evident to anyone watching the Rangers\u2019 games over the weekend\u00a0or other programming.\u00a0We are finally hearing about Talarico\u2019s record.<\/p>\n<p>The other batch is coming from Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p>Again, the cash is evident in the new ads contrasting \u201cHigh taxes\u201d Talarico and \u201cLow Taxes\u201d Paxton.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/interstatelogisticshubs.com\/?p=5910\">Personal Finance and the Road to Reparations<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is also something else happening.\u00a0Talarico is starting to get some media questions about his record.\u00a0A good one was over border security, where the candidate was critical of the Biden record.\u00a0He now calls himself a \u201cborder security Democrat,\u201d but the rebranding lacks substance.\u00a0Did he ever criticize the former administration over border security?\u00a0His answer is yes, but there is no record on that.\u00a0It doesn\u2019t get better on the oil and gas industry.\u00a0Again. He claims to be a strong supporter, but nobody in the industry recalls that support.<\/p>\n<p>So the Texas campaign has finally moved into substantive debates over issues.\u00a0It\u2019s hard to see how Talarico can compete on that front.\u00a0His remarks on capitalism will be hard to swallow for most Texas:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Texas Senate candidate James Talarico (D) demanded the \u201cdismantling\u201d of capitalism in 2020 \u2014 calling it an \u201coppressive system\u201d during a climate forum in resurfaced comments his campaign now seeks to distance itself from in his bitter race against Republican Ken Paxton.<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s KFile unearthed video Tuesday of Talarico, then a 31-year-old state representative, speaking at a virtual candidate forum hosted by the Austin chapter of the Sierra Club.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He sounds like a DSA candidate, doesn\u2019t he? Yes he does.
