I\u2019m embarrassed too. It feels a little like when we first moved to North Carolina from Massachusetts.\u00a0Before we got our cars\u2019 license plates switched over, I felt like I needed to reassure anyone who saw them that no, we are not, in fact, insane lefties come to ruin your state. Now I, in a similar fashion, feel the need to distinguish myself from other women- the women we are seeing acting out so sociopathically lately.<\/p>\n

At the time, the 19th Amendment seemed like a splendid idea. Suffragists were largely conservative.\u00a0They were anti-abortion and anti-slavery.\u00a0They made the simple argument that they weren\u2019t trying to upend the classical order of things, but merely trying to fulfill it;\u00a0that the Founders did not prohibit women from voting; they merely didn\u2019t affirm the right.\u00a0\u201cWell, let\u2019s affirm it,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

After all, the post-Civil War amendments affirmed full citizenship for blacks and gave black men the right to vote, so why not women?\u00a0What would eventually become the 19th Amendment was introduced in the Senate not long after the Civil War amendments were ratified.\u00a0Still, there was a long battle ahead.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Why? Democrats, of course. It wasn\u2019t until a Republican-controlled Congress came along in 1919 that they\u00a0got real traction.\u00a0Then it was ratified by the required 36 states amazingly fast, by 1920.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2026The Republican Party became the first major party to advocate equal rights for women, and it wasn\u2019t until the Republicans gained control of Congress in 1919 \u2014 after Democrats had defeated the 19th Amendment four times \u2014 that the amendment passed. Twenty-six of the 36 states that ratified it had Republican legislatures.<\/em><\/p>

So yay, right?\u00a0Good for us. As usual, the Republican Party moved toward Liberty, not away from it.\u00a0But now?\u00a0A century later?\u00a0We have to wonder what on earth happened.<\/p>\n

We can speculate, and we\u2019d probably be right.\u00a0The 60s happened.\u00a0It all started to fall apart in the 1960s, once women got it in their heads that \u201cwomen need men like a fish needs a bicycle.\u201d\u00a0And where did they get this idea?\u00a0From the recently departed Gloria Steinem.\u00a0She was not the only reason, but she\u2019s a notable one. Where else?\u00a0From the progressives who\u2019d infiltrated absolutely every influential corner of society, like a swarm of ideological ants.\u00a0The removal of God from all our public spaces, notably schools, has to be accounted for as well.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s the whole ball of wax, the whole thing.<\/p>\n

The Me Generation produced a bunch of narcissists who then went on to raise a bunch of narcissists, and that\u2019s who we\u2019re seeing outside the Plymouth, Massachusetts, courthouse supporting (self-confessed) child killer Lindsay Clancy.\u00a0These same women were just seen up in Boston, Massachusetts, standing around progressive Governor Maura Healey as she signed the abortion-until-birth bill into law.\u00a0They smiled, clapped, and cheered.\u00a0If that\u2019s not a marquee example of sociopathy, I don\u2019t know what would be.<\/p>\n

Like everything progressives touch, the century-old 19th Amendment now stands worse for wear.\u00a0It is like an old, beat-up book barely able to be touched without tearing.\u00a0And while repeal isn\u2019t going to happen, the calls for it \u2014 from women \u2014 are eminently understandable.<\/p>\n
