Here in the West? This precious guy, injured or sick or somehow separated from momma, would have been immediately taken somewhere to receive proper life-sustaining care. If such a resource were unavailable, beachgoers would have done all they could to help him back out to sea. Unfortunately for this dolphin though, he was fated to wind up in waters off a beach filled with third-worlders.<\/p>\n

Thirty years on, I still remember my mom taking me to our local Fred Meyer, letting me pick out these strikingly colorful notebooks, with rainbow scenes of kitties and unicorns, and of course, dolphins (as seen above). I also had a book (which I repurchased as an adult for my own children) titled, Peaceful Kingdom: Random Acts of Kindness by Animals, which included a story about a dolphin named Pelorus Jack:<\/p>

From 1880 to the early 1900s, a dolphin named Pelorus Jack guided ships through the straits off New Zealand. As soon as he heard a ship coming, Pelorus Jack would rush to it and leap into the air. The excited crew, who from many years experience knew Pelorus Jack, would shout when they saw him, knowing that they would be safely led through the dangerous waters. His guidance was considered so valuable (for only a dolphin could swim underwater, detect the swiftly moving currents and see the sandbars) that a government edict was issued protecting him.<\/p>\n

One day a drunken man aboard a ship called the Penguin shot Pelorus Jack, and the dolphin was presumed dead. Several months later he returned and, to the sailors\u2019 relief, continued to aid ships entering the straits. But whenever the Penguin came by, Pelorus Jack would not help it. How he knew which ship the Penguin was no one could say; perhaps he could tell that particular ship\u2019s engine noise.<\/p>\n

Pelorus Jack continued to guide ships safely through the straits for many years\u2014all but the Penguin, which sank in 1909. All seventy-five people aboard were drowned. No wonder so many sailors believe it is bad luck to hurt a dolphin.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It was probably a combination of these two things that made me so in love with the creatures, a love that persists even today. But aside from those sentimental memories that I personally hold, dolphins are just objectively beautiful and sensitive creatures. They\u2019re highly intelligent, curious, social, and noble\u2014there are countless stories in which dolphins have protected (and saved) humans from sharks.<\/p>\n

All of that said, it makes what happened to this innocent creature all the more intolerable. Christian values, the morality that is entirely responsible for the greatness of the West, dictate that we are to be good stewards<\/em> of the animal kingdom. These values are diametrically opposed to the \u201cvalues\u201d held by the nasty and brutish individuals who make up the third world\u2014which is why environmental conservation and third-worldism are diametrically opposed interests.<\/p>\n

Therefore, it\u2019s one or the other, and I\u2019m going with the animals\u2014and I don\u2019t mean the \u201canimals\u201d who kill baby dolphins for fun. Those animals have forfeited the human rights they were born with, and have no rightful place amongst mankind.<\/p>
