So the Democrats decided to throw more money at the problem, and implemented a handout where they\u2019d start paying students to attend school\u2014go to all your classes for just two consecutive weeks (ten school days total), and you\u2019d get a $200 gift card. (Nearly 5,000 students in Detroit alone were given this sum over the 2024\u20132025 school year, totaling $1,000,000.)<\/p>\n

Apparently, that program is now being expanded\u2014like all government programs. According to a report from a local Fox News outlet, the handout will be open to middle schoolers as well, and the price for high schoolers is increasing:<\/p>\n

Middle school students who get perfect attendance for a week, will get a $50 gift card up to $500 if they attend every class that week on time.<\/p>\n

High school students will earn a $100 gift card for their perfect attendance for an entire week with a chance to make up to $1000.<\/p>

Now, US News also tells us that the school district is making more than $27k in revenue for each student, and spending a little over $21k per student (that\u2019s a $6,000 profit per kid that they then spend on who knows what). To put that number into context, I pay a little under $8,000 a year for my son Jack to attend a very good private Christian school, where the demographics are infinitely more desirable, and the education is fantastic. I wouldn\u2019t want a Detroit public school kid anywhere near my son\u2019s classroom, but I\u2019m simply pointing out that an\u00a0education, when you get government out of it<\/em>, can be done for a fraction of what we\u2019re being forced to fund.<\/p>\n

What a disgusting exploitation of the taxpayers. First, we\u2019re paying almost thirty-thousand dollars a year per deadbeat kid to be enrolled, and now we\u2019re essentially handing them cash to simply get the \u201ceducation\u201d we\u2019re already paying for. It doesn\u2019t take a genius to realize what kind of adults these \u201cstudents\u201d will become. Not doctors and lawyers\u2014or electricians or factory workers or anything productive\u2014I can tell you that.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s an actual solution, at least to the truancy problem: Parents whose kids don\u2019t<\/em> get to school? Well they don\u2019t get their Section 8 housing dollars, they don\u2019t get their food stamps and WIC, they don\u2019t get their \u201cfree\u201d healthcare, and they don\u2019t get all their other welfare handouts, unless they actually get their kids to school on time like normal and functional parents do.<\/p>\n

Because you know they\u2019re all being subsidized\u2014these people are apparently incapable of behaving like first-worlders when we don\u2019t compel higher standards\u2014and you know that\u2019s the only thing that motivates demographics like those in the inner city of Detroit.<\/p>
