Meanwhile, California\u2014the Democrats of which are probably the least appreciative of the freedoms the Constitution guarantees us\u2014has passed a bill that will add two more holidays to be recognized there. The bill passed the state house and awaits passage by the state senate to become law. Ironically, if the bill is passed, those two holidays will represent an ideology completely contrary to the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n

Claiming he seeks to promote inclusion and diversity, Assemblymember Matt Haney of San Francisco authored the bill seeking to make Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha state holidays. The former marks the end of Ramadan (the ninth month of the Muslim year in which strict fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset); the latter commemorates the culmination of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Lest one believe Haney\u2019s initiative represents a limited majority in the California House, it passed by a vote of 64-1.<\/p>\n

Such holiday recognition ignores what any reading of Islam\u2019s holy book\u2014the Quran\u2014reveals: the religion will never align with the U.S. Constitution. Islamic law\u2014Sharia\u2014stands in sharp contrast to the freedoms our Founding Fathers memorialized in our Constitution. Why then seek to honor a religion that not only is contrary to our Constitution, but to the Judeo-Christian principles embraced by the 39 signers of the document? Such a preposterous initiative is similar to recognizing May 5th to honor the birthday of Karl Marx.<\/p>\n

What could possibly motivate Haney to promote such legislation? Although California has a Muslim population of only one percent, it should come as no surprise that San Francisco has one of the largest in the entire U.S.<\/p>

One wonders if the legislators in California even know their history. It was Thomas Jefferson who was among the first to gain an appreciation for the incompatibility of Islam to American values.<\/p>\n

In 1786, Jefferson went to London, along with John Adams, to sign a treaty with the Barbary pirates who had been attacking American merchant ships. Jefferson inquired of their ambassador why the pirates had done so without U.S. provocation. He was told something that would stay with him for the rest of his life. The ambassador explained, as Muslims, it was their duty to plunder and enslave infidels. It was this response that later caused Jefferson to support the funding of a US Navy that would go on to defeat the pirates in another conflict.<\/p>\n

As ambassador to France at the time, Jefferson was not present at the 1787 Constitutional Convention. He could never have imagined Islam would have planted itself on American soil the way it has effectively done today. Never would he have thought it possible that a state within his beloved republic would seek to honor two of that religion\u2019s holidays.<\/p>\n

We can only wonder, had Jefferson been present for the September 17, 1787 signing and knowing what he did about Islam\u2019s dark side, whether he would have insisted constitutional provisions were made to ban the religious\/political ideology. Most probably, he would not have, having confidence that educated Americans would never dishonor the country\u2019s Judeo-Christian values by embracing it.<\/p>
