There is a non-binding vote pending on whether Alberta should secede. Current polls indicate secession support could be as high as 30%, and after decades of Alberta subsidizing the rest of Canada, one can understand why.<\/p>\n

The Canadians are testing the rationale of sovereignty in the nation-state era. After all, how can a nation be a nation if it has no national identity (or border)? They may thumb their noses at us for political expediency (they have upcoming elections and also want to influence our midterms), but they\u2019ve got another thing coming if they think China will be a reliable trading partner.<\/p>
