The future of any constitutional republic has always been dependent on the electorate\u2019s involvement and turnout. Due to rampant voter apathy, the world\u2019s oldest constitutional republic, the United States, is rapidly approaching a crossroads that will determine whether its future will be one of chaos and upheaval or liberty and freedom.<\/p>

Three centuries ago, a prescient Charles-Louis de Montesquieu (1689-1755), a French political philosopher whose writings and insights into the separation of powers, checks and balances, and the nature of republics profoundly shaped the U.S. Constitution, foresaw the dire impact of voter apathy when he wrote in his seminal work, The Spirit of the Laws<\/em>, \u201cThe tyranny of a prince in an oligarchy is not so dangerous to the public welfare as the apathy of a citizen in a democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Montesquieu understood that in any democratic society, the citizenry\u2019s active involvement and interest are essential to prevent democratic principles from being eroded and to stop the rise of factions determined to overthrow the government. The tyranny of an established monarchy, oligarchy, or dictatorship is overt and there for all to see, whereas citizens in a democracy who are indifferent, complacent, or disinterested in the vital role the electorate plays in the democratic process are the silent co-conspirators in the rise of tyranny and the betrayal of their fellow citizens.<\/p>\n

The meteoric rise of the virulently anti-American Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and their subsequent takeover of the Democrat party is a prime example of Montesquieu\u2019s prophetic observation.<\/p>\n

The DSA\u2019s foundational strategy in taking over the Democrat party is to exploit voter apathy to win primaries in heavily Democrat districts and states, knowing the winning candidate will either be a DSA disciple or someone the DSA can easily intimidate. That strategy became clear eight years ago after the unexpected win by their fellow traveler, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Cortez was the epitome of an unknown candidate. Therefore, the Democrat Establishment did not take her seriously as a challenger, a fatal mistake for her opponent, Joe Crowley, a ten-term House Democrat and a pillar of the party. In the primary, only about 29,778 of 214,570 active registered Democrats\u2014approximately 13.9%\u2014voted. Ocasio-Cortez won with 16,898 votes to Crowley\u2019s 12,880. Today, she is being touted as a potential presidential candidate in 2028.<\/p>\n

In June 2026, this same scenario was replayed across New York City. That year, just 17% of registered Democratic voters turned out for the primary, enabling DSA candidates and those sympathetic to their cause to sweep several major New York City House primaries.<\/p>\n

The DSA and their anti-American allies have now won enough seats both locally and nationally to exert effective control of the Democrat party. Their foundational strategy of exploiting voter apathy will continue to bear fruit as average turnout in the 2026 primaries among states reporting results to date is just 26.0%.<\/p>\n

In the United States\u2019 two-party system, voter apathy\u2019s role in taking over one of the nation\u2019s two major parties is far more dangerous to the public welfare than overt tyranny by an oligarchy or dictatorship.<\/p>

Because of the tripartite federal government, constitutionally mandated federalism, and a \u201cwinner-takes-all\u201d electoral system, the United States can function with only two major political parties. There is no possibility of changing to a multi-party structure without a complete rewrite of the Constitution, including eliminating fifty quasi-independent states.<\/p>\n

As has happened over the nation\u2019s two-hundred-and-fifty-year history, a new party can eventually replace one of the two major parties, but the last time that occurred was over a six-year period from 1854 to 1860. The Republican Party replaced the Whigs during the tumultuous decade leading up to the Civil War, when the total U.S. population was 27 million as compared to 340 million today. It would take at least 10+ years for a new party to replace the current iteration of the Democrat Party.<\/p>\n

Consequently, the path of least resistance in transforming the United States is not by overt or subversive militancy but by the outright control of one of the two major parties, then by winning elections by any means possible, using the power of government to ruthlessly threaten and intimidate the opposition party, and appointing a compliant judiciary. Thus, the nation can be gradually transformed via legislation, regulation, and judicial fiats\u2014a process that has been underway for decades by the American Left and is now on the cusp of dramatically accelerating with the evolution of the current Democrat Party.<\/p>\n

No one running under the Democrat Party banner can be trusted, as their allegiance, by necessity and coercion, will be to the party, as today\u2019s Democrat Party, dominated by an incongruous m\u00e9lange made up of Marxists, Communists, Islamists, LGBTQ activists, Antisemites, and radical Environmentalists, will not tolerate anyone leaving the reservation.<\/p>\n

The only common trait within this disparate cabal is unabashed and virulent anti-Americanism. They will brutally turn on each other once the party assumes control of the White House and both Houses of Congress and single-mindedly begins the process of making certain no opposition party will ever win another national election.<\/p>\n

If the current iteration of the Democrat Party succeeds in assuming control of all the levers of power, they will never achieve their objectives of fully transforming the United States, but in their unwavering efforts to do so, they will unleash uncontainable societal chaos that will lead to tyranny, upheaval, and violence that could potentially unravel the union.<\/p>\n

The luxury of wallowing in petty grievances, demands for ideological purity, obsessions with single issues, and narrow self-interests as reasons not to vote or become involved is over.<\/p>\n

The future of the country depends on the electorate’s participation and turnout in the primaries and general elections, and on voting for the only feasible option: a Republican Party that, over the past ten years, has evolved into a viable opposition party under the banner of America First.<\/p>
