It\u2019s getting interesting in Michigan, as Abdul El-Sayed is now bringing Jesus into the campaign. Let me tell you about it. As the campaign unfolds, Abdul is trying to make his campaign about himself, except not really himself.<\/p>

First, he called himself African, while trying to connect with African Americans. What\u2019s wrong with that? I don\u2019t think most black voters will be impressed by that. They weren\u2019t impressed with him the first time around, during the primaries.<\/p>\n

Now, he\u2019s trying to compare his work to Jesus\u2019 struggles, and that won\u2019t work, either.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s see this from Ed Morrissey:<\/p>\n

This will likely land even less well among Christians in Michigan than El-Sayed\u2019s claim to be \u201cAfrican\u201d will with black voters in Detroit.<\/p>\n

Radical Islamists have spent the last fifteen centuries attempting to erase Christianity and have largely succeeded where their footprints remain.<\/p>

Even apart from that, though, Christians will recognize the utter vapidity of this argument. Jesus was not a \u201cradical\u201d \u2013 Jesus was the Son of God, sent to restore the Law in our hearts and to die for our sins. The only political position Jesus takes in the entire New Testament is to advise people to pay their taxes. He did not come to the world to lead a revolt against authority or to conduct class warfare. Just saying this makes El-Sayed look as ill-informed about Christianity as he is about being black in America.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Here is Abdul\u2019s saying that Jesus was a radical, too:<\/p>\n

Not a good idea to bring Jesus into it. Years ago, John Lennon (The Beatles) learned that lesson the hard way, and he was just a rocker who wanted to hold your hand. The backlash was huge when John told an interviewer that \u201cthe group was \u2018more popular than Jesus\u2019 at the moment.\u201d It was a disaster, and John was not running for anything. Comparisons to Jesus always get you in trouble.<\/p>\n

El-Sayed\u2019s main problem is that he doesn’t have much to say other than repeating a bunch of talking points. It probably worked to win the primary but not much more.<\/p>
