He dared to break from the pack of Israel haters as a recognizable celebrity — and he couldn’t be clearer about where he stands.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome call it genocide,\u201d he wrote in his song lyric. \u201cI call it war.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the more the entertainment community piles on to punish Boy George — both economically and publicly — the more emboldened he appears to become.<\/p>\n

The song he released in the maelstrom of disapproval carries a poignant title:\u00a0\u201cWe Will Dance Again!\u201d<\/p>\n

The title is unmistakably evocative of the barbaric massacre carried out against Jews and non-Jews at the Nova Festival, where young music lovers had gathered to celebrate life. Hamas did its best to slaughter everyone in sight, while simultaneously attacking neighboring Jewish communities, mostly kibbutzim, on Oct. 7, 2023.<\/p>\n

One of his most famous quotes — and one that sent members of the LGBTQ community into overdrive vilifying the singer — goes straight to the heart of why Boy George took his stand.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing\u2026 asked to turn against a whole race of people is just not acceptable,\u201d he said when interviewed on the popular Irish talk show\u00a0The Late Show<\/em>. \u201cI’ve kind of had a lot of abuse online for my support of my Jewish friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

Host Patrick Kielty was hardly content to let Boy George make his point without being challenged. Kielty appeared intent on nudging the celebrity toward the increasingly familiar — and perverse logic — suggesting the IDF\u2019s attack on Hamas in Gaza was the moral equivalent of the terrorist group\u2019s reign of atrocities.<\/p>\n

Kielty offered this: \u201cYou know you’ve got attacks on the Jewish community and the backdrop of that is obviously the horrors in Gaza. This is a complex thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seriously?<\/p>\n

And there, in a few words, lies the obscenity of the moral inversion being demanded of the celebrity: That said, Boy George isn\u2019t one to be swept up in the tidal wave of propaganda that has effectively turned polished, well-spoken talk-show hosts like Kielty into apologists for Hamas. So Kielty was slipping in the unthinkable — offering an \u201cobjective\u201d explanation, however dangerous, for innocent Jews being stabbed or blown up in New York, Los Angeles, Dublin, London, Paris — and the list keeps growing.<\/p>

After all, Kielty suggested, the attacks on Jews were merely a \u201cbackdrop\u201d to the \u201chorrors in Gaza.\u201d Perhaps the host should brush up on a few lines in George\u2019s song: \u201cYou condemn the Jews\/ With selective memory.\u201d Or, \u201cYou say genocide, I say war\/ When you\u2019re attacked, that\u2019s what the army\u2019s for.\u201d<\/p>\n

The divide could hardly be greater.<\/p>\n

Boy George\u2019s refusal to \u201ccondemn an entire people\u201d has come with a price — and not merely a political one. There has been an economic backlash.<\/p>\n

He was released from a major West End production of\u00a0Jesus Christ Superstar<\/em>, where he had been cast as King Herod. His production company, headed by Tony Pontius, also ended its professional relationship with him over his refusal to \u201ccancel\u201d his song,\u00a0\u201cWe Will Dance Again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even members of his own band joined the chorus of disapproval, a few refusing to perform the song with him.<\/p>\n

The irony is almost too perfect.<\/p>\n

Boy George built his career by doing precisely what he is now being punished for: refusing to conform. The flamboyant, openly gay singer came out decades ago and became an icon to an LGBTQ generation that celebrated his defiance of convention. Gender-bending clothes. Makeup. Outrageous fashion. An unmistakable refusal to play by anyone else\u2019s rules.<\/p>\n

Yet now, many gays sound less like independent thinkers and more like enthusiastic parrots expressing vitriol for their gay brother and a \u201csuicidal empathy\u201d for embracing Hamas as \u201cfreedom fighters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tragically, groups such as the absurdly named, \u201cQueers for Palestine,\u201d are helping create a climate that advances Hamas\u2019 murderous aims. Admittedly, they know Boy George makes a far safer target for condemnation.<\/p>\n

Their empathy for Hamas fails to factor in one obscene reality: the terror group they champion would hardly return the warm embrace. In Gaza, homosexuals associated with such a movement would face the very real prospect of being thrown from a rooftop — perhaps still clutching their rainbow flags and slogans until they hit bottom.<\/p>
