The Muslim Brotherhood may finally get the condemnations and consequences that it deserves, at least if Senator Ted Cruz has his way. The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action and Federal Courts, which Cruz chairs, held a hearing entitled \u201cHidden in Plain Sight: Confronting the Muslim Brotherhood Network in America.\u201d<\/p>

Not one Democrat participated. For years we have been tolerating the presence of this organization, turning a blind eye toward its terrorist network in this country. It\u2019s finally time to hold them accountable.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not familiar with the Muslim Brotherhood, it is one of the oldest Islamist organizations, originally formed in the 20th century:<\/p>\n

\n

The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in 1928 in Egypt by Hassan al-Banna and quickly spread through the Arab world, including the Gaza Strip. The cornerstone of what began as the Muslim Brotherhood\u2019s civilian infrastructure in Gaza was Al-Mujama Al-Islami (also known as the Islamic Center or the Islamic Complex), founded by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in 1973.<\/p>\n

By the early 1960s, the Muslim Brotherhood had built a presence in the U.S., where its members functioned primarily through student unions on college campuses, most particularly through the Muslim Students Association (MSA).The Muslim Brotherhood in the U.S. evolved quickly and by the late 1980s, had a formalized structure, an elected decision making body (the shura council), a presiding official (the Masul El-Am), and numerous covert front organizations whose ostensible purpose was to aid, support, and celebrate the U.S.\u2019s Arab and Muslim community, but were stealthily designed to seed an Islamist narrative and radicalize others.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

By forming front groups, the Brotherhood has largely managed to stay out of the spotlight. But these groups have an impact that is becoming more ominous with each passing year. Since the 1990s, U.S.-based Hamas groups have made significant inroads into several levels of society, including politics, the universities and the media. They have perpetuated a pro-terror, antisemitic and anti-Western narrative in this country.<\/p>\n

The Council on American Islamic Relations is another one of the most visible of these groups. In October 2025, Senator Tom Cotton and Representative Elise Stefanik wrote a letter to the Treasury Department requesting it investigate CAIR and its possible connections to Hamas. To date, it\u2019s no surprise that CAIR consistently denies any connection to Hamas.<\/p>\n

Testimony from Kyle Shideler, Director and Senior Analyst for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, Center for Security Policy, was typical of what witnesses offered at the hearing. at the hearing had to say. He explained that the country has experienced other incursions into our national security, and he described the ensuing trials that were conducted:<\/p>

To these we must add United States v. Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, prosecuted almost two decades ago, which exposed the existence and extensive reach of the Muslim Brotherhood in America since its arrival in 1962. The evidence submitted during that trial demonstrated that not only was the Muslim Brotherhood operating in America, but that the Brotherhood played a singularly important role in providing indoctrination, financing, and political protection for jihadist terror.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The hearing also confirmed the close links between the Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR, and the Democratic Socialists of America:<\/p>\n

Cruz questioned Shideler about reported alliances between Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups and the Democratic Socialists of America, according to Congressional testimony. Shideler confirmed the connection, according to social media posts from the hearing.<\/p>\n

Simultaneously, Fox News Digital published findings from a review of Federal Election Commission records showing that [Abdul] El-Sayed\u2019s Michigan campaign for Senator, collected more than $115,000 from at least 41 individuals who work for, previously worked for, or have held leadership positions with CAIR. According to Fox News reporting, donors included CAIR national Board Chair Manal Fakhoury, Board Treasurer Eyas Abdeen, Vice Chair Emad Sabbah, and Tayeb\u2014El-Sayed\u2019s father-in-law. Contributions came from CAIR affiliates in multiple states including California, Texas, Georgia, Arizona, and others.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Finally, the Democrats\u2019 decision to boycott the hearing was baffling, to say the least. Here was their explanation:<\/p>\n

Before the hearing, Democrats announced their intention to boycott the event.<\/p>\n

\u2018Scapegoating Muslims may be a Texas Republican strategist\u2019s idea of \u2018solid gold\u2019 to whip up their voters, but Democrats have no intention of indulging this political creepshow, particularly after the recent violence targeting places of faith,\u2019 Democratic members of the subcommittee said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

When it comes to attacks on \u201cplaces of faith,\u201d those attacks have primarily been on synagogues, not mosques. Given the Muslim Brotherhood\u2019s long history of colluding with terrorist organizations, a person must wonder why the Democrats feel obligated to defend the group. With its members working with Democrats, another now-totalitarian organization, Democrats might believe that a relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood makes sense.<\/p>
