Why did we allow ourselves to be convinced that Americans should make only a few select things and buy everything else from foreign markets?\u00a0\u00a0Why did we allow politicians and Wall Street investors to convince us that \u201cfree trade\u201d requires slave labor from faraway lands?\u00a0\u00a0Why did we spend a century ensuring safer work environments and more dependable wages for our skilled tradesmen only to export those jobs to adversarial nations that care nothing about worker safety or providing above-subsistence standards of living?\u00a0\u00a0Why did we fight a Cold War in defense of freedom only to subsidize Chinese communism?\u00a0\u00a0Why do we regulate ourselves to death in the name of \u201cfighting global warming,\u201d while China and India inflict the worst environmental damage on the planet?<\/p>\n

Prove these statements wrong: There is no worker on the planet more capable than an American.\u00a0\u00a0There is no nation of people more innovative than the United States.\u00a0\u00a0There is nothing that Americans import from other nations that Americans can\u2019t discover, create, grow, or produce on their own.\u00a0\u00a0There is no country on the planet with more educational infrastructure than the United States.\u00a0\u00a0There is no country on the planet with a greater incentive to defend its way of life.<\/p>\n

I believe that Establishment politicians and multinational investment firms sold us a bill of goods when they told us that \u201cfree trade\u201d deals, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement, would provide American households greater prosperity.\u00a0\u00a0I believe that those politicians and Wall Street investors lied when they told us that the United States would become a \u201cservice economy\u201d and that blue-collar workers would find personal fulfillment as customer service representatives, real estate agents, telephone operators, data technicians, and software coders.\u00a0\u00a0I believe that politicians and Big Ag corporations lie when they insist that only illegal aliens are willing to sweat in farm fields.\u00a0\u00a0I believe that politicians who ignore federal law by establishing \u201csanctuary cities\u201d and NGOs that aid and abet human smuggling into the United States lie when they say that some jobs are \u201ctoo dirty\u201d for Americans to take.\u00a0\u00a0I believe Establishment politicians and Wall Street titans have spent fifty years lying to the American people about the kinds of jobs that Americans should do.<\/p>\n

The economy of the United States did not surpass that of the United Kingdom until the third year of WWI in 1916.\u00a0\u00a0While the U.K. had been the engine for the global economy for two centuries, America held an inimitable distinction: No other country in the world had maintained higher rates of both intra-<\/em> and inter-<\/em>generational mobility.\u00a0\u00a0The American Experiment created an ideal environment for innovation, hard work, investment, and private ownership.\u00a0\u00a0Individual workers advanced up the economic ladder during their own lifetimes, and their children and grandchildren ascended even farther.\u00a0\u00a0In a few generations, farmers became tradesmen who became merchants who became bankers, lawyers, ministers, and politicians.\u00a0\u00a0Respect for private property and a rejection of European social castes made America a land of opportunity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since the creation of the Federal Reserve in a rigged Christmas vote in 1913, the American system has been upended.\u00a0 Bankers created a monopoly for themselves to manipulate the value of the American dollar.\u00a0\u00a0They, in turn, set the monetary system down a path toward inevitable decoupling from the gold standard.\u00a0\u00a0Dollar-printing (and government spending) decreased the value of personal savings and artificially juiced the currency-denominated value of homes, stocks, and other assets \u2014 effectively transferring wealth from the poorest Americans to the wealthiest.\u00a0\u00a0As inflation steadily kicked in, central bankers and corporation-controlled politicians looked for ways to limit the rising costs of American goods.\u00a0\u00a0They artificially increased demand for the dollar by linking it to oil revenues, offshored American manufacturing to low-wage or slave-wage foreign nations, decreased the quality of finished products, and replaced small businesses with a handful of multinational corporate monopolies.\u00a0\u00a0Each of these \u201cband-aids\u201d has preserved Wall Street\u2019s internal mechanisms for generating profits, while destroying the engine of American ingenuity and the physical infrastructure of American industry, manufacturing, and real economic growth.<\/p>

The end result has been that \u2014 in charts and graphs<\/span> \u2014 America has appeared to maintain an advanced economy that has consistently grown through the decades, even though its industrial towns have collapsed into rusty graveyards.\u00a0\u00a0If you separate the economy of the United States into two separate lines on a graph \u2014 one for Main Street businesses across the country and one for multinational businesses running Wall Street \u2014 it becomes obvious that small American businesses have had no growth (or negative growth) for decades.\u00a0\u00a0While the costs of their raw materials, employees, government regulations, and taxes have continued to rise, their profits have dwindled.\u00a0\u00a0The engine of American growth in the real economy has been sputtering and dying, while artificially inflated valuations of Wall Street assets have been disguising America\u2019s economic infirmity.\u00a0\u00a0Wall Street has become the Potemkin economy<\/span> hiding America\u2019s loss of industrial strength.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is no way for a superpower to endure.\u00a0\u00a0The United States cannot survive if it is dependent on communist China for chemicals, medicines, circuit boards, electrical components, clothing, machinery, and furniture.\u00a0\u00a0The United States cannot survive if it is dependent on other nations for critical hydrocarbon energies (see<\/em> economically impotent Europe as it struggles to survive both \u201cgreen energy\u201d-induced inflation and self-imposed sanctions on Russian oil and gas).\u00a0\u00a0More importantly, America cannot pass any industrial and manufacturing know-how to future generations if the living generations have no real skills worth preserving.\u00a0\u00a0Pretending that America can economically flourish on investment portfolios alone is delusional.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cLet them be day traders,\u201d is indistinguishable from, \u201cLet them eat cake,\u201d and will inevitably lead to the same bloody guillotine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When people ask, \u201cWhat is \u2018America First\u2019?\u201d or, \u201cWhat does \u2018Make America Great Again\u2019 actually mean?\u201d or, \u201cWhy are President Trump\u2019s tariffs important?\u201d or, \u201cWhy should Americans learn to build things again?\u201d the simple answer is this: Economic security is national security.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot defend ourselves from foreign enemies if we depend upon our enemies for critical resources.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot lift American citizens out of poverty if all the jobs have been exported overseas.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot be an innovative nation if our people don\u2019t know how to build things with their hands.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot be a self-sufficient nation unless our people are willing to get sweaty and dirty.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot be a happy nation unless our people value hard work more than government handouts.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot be a nation dedicated to helping each other if we undermine the value of citizenship and community by flooding the country with illegal aliens.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot minimize inflation unless we minimize the inflationary effects of open borders on housing, food, and healthcare.\u00a0\u00a0We cannot be a wealthy nation if all the \u201cwealth\u201d is created through central bank funny money, tax-and-spend magic tricks, and Wall Street bailouts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Like him, love him, distrust him, or despise him, President Trump is the first president in more than a century who understands what\u2019s at stake.\u00a0\u00a0We either reorient ourselves back toward the American system that generated greater intra- and intergenerational social mobility than anywhere else in the world, or we accept that one day Wall Street\u2019s multinational investment firms will succeed in bleeding this country dry.\u00a0\u00a0America will not prosper from open borders, welfare fraud, and central banking.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We must rededicate ourselves to making, building, and producing everything.\u00a0\u00a0Securing that future is how we make America great.<\/p>
