The G-20 brings together major economies to address global challenges.\u00a0\u00a0But not every large economy should be at that table.\u00a0\u00a0The question is simple: What should membership require?<\/p>\n

Membership should reflect economic competence, reliable participation, and a willingness to work constructively toward shared goals.\u00a0\u00a0Not outdated tradition.\u00a0\u00a0Not size alone.\u00a0\u00a0Merit should matter.<\/p>\n

Not every large economy meets that test.\u00a0\u00a0Poland does.<\/p>\n

Poland has transformed its economy through competitive taxation, labor-market reform, and openness to investment.\u00a0\u00a0The results are concrete.\u00a0\u00a0These choices helped grow nominal GDP from roughly $160 billion in 2000 to more than $1 trillion by 2025.<\/p>\n

For two decades, the country has averaged nearly 4 percent growth.\u00a0\u00a0Germany\u2019s growth has stalled.\u00a0\u00a0France struggles with weak growth and persistent unemployment.\u00a0\u00a0Italy remains trapped in low growth.\u00a0\u00a0Poland\u2019s is a major economy that works.<\/p>\n

Competence alone does not explain why Poland belongs in the G-20.\u00a0\u00a0The G-20 coordinates on energy security, supply chains, technology, and the international financial system.\u00a0\u00a0These decisions influence whether democracies or autocracies shape the future of the global economy.\u00a0\u00a0At a time when China is using economic power to rewrite the rules of global commerce, the composition of the G-20 matters more than ever.<\/p>\n

Poland shares American concerns about China\u2019s attempts to reshape supply chains away from democratic allies.\u00a0\u00a0Poland understands the threat Russia poses to European security.\u00a0\u00a0Poland supports open markets and democratic governance.\u00a0\u00a0The G-20 increasingly shapes the competition between open and closed economic systems, so Poland\u2019s commitments in this regard should be welcome.<\/p>\n

Poland\u2019s inclusion would strengthen everyone at the table.\u00a0\u00a0The United States gains a reliable partner on energy, technology, and supply chains.\u00a0\u00a0Poland gains the ability to shape rules that will affect its future.\u00a0\u00a0The G-20 gains the perspective of a major economy that has turned economic transformation into strategic strength.<\/p>

Poland spends 4.7 percent of its GDP on defense \u2014 the highest in NATO, outpacing Estonia and the United States.\u00a0\u00a0The country is undertaking one of Europe\u2019s most ambitious military modernization programs, including purchases of American-made F-35 fighter aircraft and air defense systems.<\/p>\n

Poland shares roughly 400 miles of frontier with Belarus and Russia\u2019s Kaliningrad exclave.\u00a0\u00a0It is NATO\u2019s frontline state.\u00a0\u00a0Troops deployed to the eastern flank.\u00a0\u00a0American military personnel hosted.\u00a0\u00a0The threat should be treated as an operational reality, not a theoretical concern.<\/p>\n

Poland is becoming a hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.\u00a0\u00a0As China works to reshape global supply chains away from democratic allies, the United States cannot afford dependence on hostile powers for critical goods.\u00a0\u00a0Poland offers an alternative \u2014 an economy that is growing, investing, and aligned with American interests.<\/p>\n

The current G-20 agenda emphasizes regulatory reform, energy security, and technological innovation.\u00a0\u00a0Poland embodies this agenda.\u00a0\u00a0Competitive taxation and labor-market flexibility keep regulatory burdens low.\u00a0\u00a0Aggressive investment in energy infrastructure and advanced manufacturing is underway.\u00a0\u00a0Semiconductor and defense-technology capabilities are being built to compete with China.<\/p>\n

Poland did not succeed by managing economic outcomes from above.\u00a0\u00a0It succeeded by creating conditions for private enterprise to flourish.\u00a0\u00a0That approach is the foundation of Trump\u2019s economic agenda.\u00a0\u00a0It is what the G-20 should model and encourage globally.<\/p>\n

The G-20 should not be a museum preserving yesterday\u2019s economic order.\u00a0\u00a0It should be a coalition of countries building tomorrow\u2019s prosperity.\u00a0\u00a0President Trump has five months before the Miami summit to build consensus among G-20 members.\u00a0\u00a0He should make Poland\u2019s permanent membership a priority.<\/p>\n
