DNC Chairman Ken Martin apparently inspires no one, nor does he command respect. According to Mediaite, state parties, such as New Hampshire, may well hold their 2028 presidential primaries whenever they want, feeling no consequences from Martin for voting earlier than he dictates.<\/p>\n

That report follows a New York Times investigation, published Sunday, that painted Martin as a man coming apart at the seams. According to their sourcing, Martin hurled his phone at a junior staffer\u2019s desk during a fit of anger in early July, bringing a formal HR complaint and landing Martin in a meeting with the committee\u2019s human resources officials.<\/p>\n

The Times also described a chairman worried that his own colleagues are plotting to remove him and so consumed by fear of leaks that he reportedly confronted the party\u2019s finance director last spring over what he believed was a growing coup.<\/p>\n

Further, the DNC is roughly $2 million in the red, while the RNC sits on more than $128 million in cash, and the website NOTUS reported that the committee mortgaged its own Capitol Hill headquarters last year to secure a $15 million loan \u2014 not an ordinary move in a non-election year.<\/p>\n

Martin was elected in February 2025 to a four-year term by the DNC, and only a vote of that body can remove him before 2029. He\u2019s already survived one round of complaints: leaked audio from a June Zoom call had him telling fellow officers he wasn\u2019t sure he wanted the job anymore, after infighting with vice chair David Hogg over Hogg\u2019s $20 million push to primary sitting House Democrats.<\/p>\n

James Carville weighed in Sunday with a shrug, saying the dysfunction reporting was \u201call true\u201d and that if Hogg wants to run the DNC himself, he\u2019s not going to stand in the way. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries took the opposite position, telling reporters at a Pennsylvania rally that Martin \u201chas my full support\u201d and pointing to the party\u2019s recent wins in down-ballot races as evidence the machinery still works.<\/p>\n

With Democrats shooting themselves in the foot, Republicans need only to avoid following suit to hold onto their slim congressional majorities.<\/p>\n
