Texas Senate candidate James Talarico is now endorsing reparations for slavery to black people as the Democrat continues to be haunted by allegations of racism first hurled against him during the final weeks of his primary campaign against Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D., Texas).<\/p>\n

Claiming Texas still suffers from the \u201creverberations of slavery,\u201d Talarico threw his support behind reparations for black people during a town hall event, saying he would enact tuition relief, homeownership, and baby bonds for black people to help build generational wealth. The move comes at a fraught time for the Texas Democrat as recent polling shows he\u2019s struggling to shore up support from the black community and comes one day after he was dressed down by an angry voter who declared that black people don\u2019t trust him.<\/p>\n

\u201cReparations, repairing past harms, is part of my faith tradition. It\u2019s part of the values I was raised with,\u201d Talarico told an audience of mostly black people on Monday. \u201cUntil we, as a society, are committed to restoring those past wrongs, of restoring our black communities, we\u2019re never going to be able to get this country back on track \u2026 if we win Texas with a room that looks like this, that is going to be an earthquake in American politics. It will transform the politics of this country and allow us to build the political will to repair those past harms.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Talk about pandering. Furthermore, does Talarico understand how badly this is going to play with Hispanic voters? Does he seriously think that Hispanic, or any other voters, believe that we fix our past problems by giving money to people in 2026?<\/p>

It appears that Talarico does have a \u201cblack\u201d problem, which is a major negative for a Democrat who must win big in Houston and Dallas to compensate for the GOP tsunami coming from the suburbs and rural areas. For example, the article points out that a recent poll shows that 12% of blacks in Texas have an unfavorable view of Talarico.<\/p>\n

It does not help Talarico that Crockett was offended by something he allegedly said about Collin Allred, the black Democrat defeated by Senator Cruz in 2024.<\/p>\n

In the end, this intra-party dispute may be nothing more than another Jasmine Crockett\u2019s temper tantrum. She may be trying to stay relevant by saying all these things. Or it may be a sign that blacks are worried that the party overlooks its most reliable voters.<\/p>\n

Last, but not least, it may be that blacks think Talarico is a strange dude with all of his obsessions about six genders and a non-binary God. He may remind them of Mayor Pete, who never caught on with black voters.<\/p>
