Netanyahu mentioned Erdo\u011fan\u2019s referencing Zionism as \u201ca genocidal ideology\u201d\u00a0and his claim that Israel poses a threat to Turkey\u2019s survival.\u00a0\u00a0Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan escalated the anti-Israel rhetoric in an interview on T\u00fcrk TV by calling Israel \u201ca burden that humanity can no longer bear\u201d and \u201ca problem for the entire world.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Fidan then called on the international community to impose sanctions on Israel.\u00a0\u00a0Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar, called Fidan\u2019s words \u201ca clear call for genocide.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0The Jewish people know very well what happens when such words are allowed to go unchallenged.\u00a0\u00a0The first step on the road to genocide is dehumanization.<\/p>\n

When a reporter at an Oval Office briefing asked Trump about the Turkish dictator\u2019s recent antisemitic remarks about Israel, Trump ignored the question.\u00a0\u00a0Instead, he praised Erdo\u011fan, stating, \u201cAs you know, he\u2019s a very good friend of mine, and we\u2019ve worked very well together.\u00a0\u00a0I like him a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Erdo\u011fan, now leading a Sunni Muslim coalition, seeks to undermine Israel along with Iran, Qatar, and Iranian proxies.\u00a0\u00a0They have made their position clear: They would like to end the existence of the Jewish state.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While expressing his fondness for Erdo\u011fan, and ignoring the threats posed by Erdo\u011fan against Israel, Trump has shown himself to be an unstable friend of Israel and of Netanyahu in particular.\u00a0\u00a0He has ignored the fact that Netanyahu was his only partner against the radical regime in Tehran \u2014 a regime that has for decades called for \u201cdeath to America\u201d and was on the verge of assembling a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n

Conversely, Erdo\u011fan has been assisting the ayatollahs\u2019 regime in evading U.S. sanctions.\u00a0\u00a0According to\u00a0Politico\u00a0(Dec. 8, 2022), a secret meeting\u00a0between a delegation of senior Iranian military and government officials and a business group from Turkey led by a confidant of Erdo\u011fan, was held, according to Western diplomats, to deepen their partnership\u00a0engaged in smuggling Iranian oil\u00a0to buyers in China and Russia and to raise funds\u00a0for Tehran\u2019s terror proxies.<\/p>\n

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed\u00a0that Turkey helped prevent armed Iranian Kurdish groups from opening a new front inside Iran as part of what Tehran says was a U.S.-Israeli regime-change effort.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, Erdo\u011fan was opposed to regime change in Iran and to the Iranian Kurdish militias who were willing and able to take on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).\u00a0\u00a0Had Trump given the Kurdish militias a chance rather than heeding Erdo\u011fan\u2019s request, the war with Iran might have progressed differently.\u00a0\u00a0And the fanatical regime of the ayatollahs and the IRGC would have faced a significant challenge from within.<\/p>

Trump seems to prefer that the conflict between Erdo\u011fan and Netanyahu remain while deliberately ignoring the danger the Turkish dictator poses to Israel, Greece, and Cyprus.\u00a0\u00a0Trump is eager to sell him the lethal F-35 fighter jet, which threatens both Israel and NATO member Greece.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s repeated praise of Erdo\u011fan and his willingness to continue despite Erdo\u011fan\u2019s threats against Israel may be the latest indication of the U.S. president\u2019s growing unease with Netanyahu, whom he reportedly rebuked in recent phone calls and the press, while asserting that Netanyahu will do whatever he tells him to do when it comes to Iran and Lebanon.<\/p>\n

Israel faces an existential threat from Iran, and Netanyahu understands that only a regime change will bring peace and stability to the Middle East region.\u00a0\u00a0Iran, in fact, under a more secular and liberal regime, might very well become an American ally and a member of the Abraham Accords.\u00a0\u00a0The Islamist Erdo\u011fan, whose support of the anti-Western and anti-Christian Muslim Brotherhood is well known, has an interest in preserving the current Iranian regime, somewhat weakened but not defeated.<\/p>\n

What widened the divide between Trump and Netanyahu is essentially the MoU between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic of Iran.\u00a0\u00a0With Trump eager for a deal, the Iranians were able to dictate the terms by tying the preservation of Iran\u2019s proxy, Hezb\u2019allah, with their signing the deal.\u00a0\u00a0Hezb\u2019allah violated the ceasefire agreement by shelling northern Israel, and Trump, keen on the deal, demanded that Netanyahu end Israeli attacks on Hezb\u2019allah headquarters in southern Beirut.\u00a0\u00a0Netanyahu reluctantly complied.\u00a0\u00a0In Israel, the MoU appeared as Trump having given in to Iran.\u00a0\u00a0Trump wanted total Israeli compliance while Iran violated the MoU by attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

As long as Iran remains undefeated and receives monies with Erdo\u011fan\u2019s oil-sales assistance, Hezb\u2019allah\u2019s entrenchment in Lebanon will continue and Israeli communities in northern Israel will be a target.\u00a0\u00a0No Israeli government, or any government, including the U.S., would allow a terrorist organization to disrupt the lives of its citizens.\u00a0\u00a0Moreover, the legitimate Lebanese government of President Joseph Aoun understands that Hezb\u2019allah must not be allowed to subvert its independence by provoking war with Israel and installing Iran as the de facto<\/em> major arbiter in Lebanon\u2019s affairs.<\/p>\n

Are U.S. interests in the Middle East peace and stability, or are deals more important \u2014 including $700 million from the sale of jet engines to Erdo\u011fan?\u00a0\u00a0And is Trump\u2019s frustration with the Iran war designating Netanyahu as his scapegoat?\u00a0\u00a0For now, it seems that way.<\/p>
